When a loved one resists care, it can feel personal.
Frustrating. Confusing. Sometimes even hurtful.
But often, resistance is a form of communication.
Understanding what might be behind it can change how you respond and support them.
These moments aren’t easy. And you’re not alone in navigating them.

No one really teaches you how to be a caregiver.
Most people are figuring it out in real time.
That’s why having the right information matters.
Even small insights can make decisions feel a little clearer and a little less overwhelming.
You don’t have to rely on guesswork.

If you're caring for someone you love, you may be grieving even if you haven't lost them yet.
It's called anticipatory grief. It often arrives quietly and gradually, making it hard to name.
This spring, we sat down with experts from the Family Caregiver Alliance for a three-day conversation in our community about this experience. Caregivers shared what it's like to feel perpetually on call or guilty for needing a break. They struggle to explain to friends why they can't "get out more."
They also shared how small and predictable things help make it possible to keep going.
If any of this sounds familiar: Read more and let us know what you think! https://research.smartpatients.com/resources/the-grief-that-comes-before-the-lossnbsp
