Super excited about this.
In collaboration with Greening Projects, my group Vision Blvd is pursuing a large federal $2 million dollar grant. We recently received a letter of support from the California Department of Transportation (aka Caltrans). This was quite a shock, and it dramatically strengthens our grant application.
In the event we are awarded this grant, I’m looking forward to partnering with Caltrans leaders on our proposal. This is huge.

In collaboration with Greening Projects, we are pursuing the federal Reconnecting Communities Pilot Grant Program. This grant would lead to a comprehensive study of Central Freeway alternatives in San Francisco. These alternatives can include but are not limited to: Affordable housing, new public green space, transit and safe multimodal streets, and new small business.
If you’re interested in supporting this effort to study the Central Freeway, and explore ways to improve this vital area of San Francisco, please sign the petition below. Completing the petition will only take a few seconds. The more signatures the better.
Thanks to those who have already signed, and have a good rest of your week. ✌️
It's Time for a Central Freeway Alternative
San Francisco has a history of successfully removing harmful freeway infrastructure. The Embarcadero Freeway demolition began in 1991. The west of Market Street section of the Central Freeway was finally replaced with a modernized Octavia Blvd in 2003. This historic transformation of urban life has....

We are extremely honored to receive the endorsement of the Sierra Club.
Sierra Club, SF Bay Chapter recognizes that building more dense housing and expanding public transit is essential to mitigating climate change.
This is exactly what we hope to accomplish. San Francisco has an opportunity to lead on green urbanism and be a model for the entire nation.

Opinion | Demolish the Central Freeway. Build homes, parks and transit
OPINION: If City Hall is serious about meeting state housing mandates of 82,000 new homes by 2031 it should take a hard look at Vision Blvd.— Daniel Owens

We had a great Elgin Park block party on Saturday June 1st. Over 200 attendees, tons of great community input and feedback, Senator Scott Wiener showed up (thank you, Senator).
Special thanks to Multistudio and Greening Projects for being such great co-organizers and working so hard to make this happen, and a big big big thank you to all of the Elgin Park neighbors who were welcoming and open to this event.
More to come soon!

Big news: Vision Blvd has launched its first-ever phase of fundraising since its inception. Here’s what a tax-deductible contribution will do:
✅ Fund essential studies and designs to ensure that any final Central Freeway removal proposal is excellent and meets our 21st century moment
✅ Create citywide events and promotional materials to highlight our effort, spread the word, take in community input, and have some fun in the process (P.S. We have a block party on Elgin Park, June 1st 10am - 2pm, and you are invited so please come!)
Please share this with friends and family. If you care about helping San Francisco reach its potential by paving the way towards safer streets, cleaner air, multimodal transportation, new affordable housing, and beautiful new green space, please consider a donation.
Enjoy the rest of your week ✌️

The Removal of the Central Freeway

San Franciscans have a binary choice when it comes to the fate of the Central Freeway, aka the "Division Stub":
Do we want the Stub for another generation? Or do we want a better alternative that looks toward the future?

10 REASONS TO REMOVE THE CENTRAL FREEWAY - REASON #1:
It's an eyesore.
The first reason to remove the one mile-long overpass is perhaps the most glaring and obvious, and perhaps the least important.
The freeway doesn't meet SF's standards for design and beauty. It's a dump.
A big indicator of a great neighborhood is whether or not people enjoy walking around in it. Nobody enjoys walking underneath the Central Freeway, as it looms above pedestrians and cyclists.
The trees are gone, the air is no longer fresh, it’s unsafe and hostile to everyone.
Also, the barbwire... Nothing makes an environment appear ugly and unwelcoming like some well-placed barbwire.
We all wish the Central Freeway was designed with “people” in mind, but it wasn’t.
It is merely a clogged artery for personal vehicles in the heart of San Francisco.
