SF can implement the strong voter mandate of Prop K by creating a municipal housing program. So what's the hold-up? Unfortunately, it's a lack of imagination.
Thank you Shanti Singh and Alex Lantsberg, of the Housing Stability Fund Oversight Board, for writing this article and working to chart a path forward!

“Just as 78 percent of Democrats nationally support expanding Medicare, three out of every four San Franciscans support social housing.”
Last year’s Prop K represented a clear mandate for public social housing — not austerity and cuts!
This year, a broad coalition of unions, community groups, and tenants are working to hold the City accountable. Email the Supervisors to share your support! https://actionnetwork.org/letters/we-need-your-support-for-the-emergency-housing-acquisition-program/

Memo to SF supes: On affordable housing, don't be Joe Manchin - 48 hills
Approving money for social housing is a clear mandate—and the opposition talking points are the same old tired nonsense we have heard before.

We need your support for the Emergency Housing Acquisition Program
A few months ago, we demanded Mayor Breed and Board of Supervisor Use Prop I Money for Rent Relief and Affordable Housing. During the budget process, some money was set aside for rent relief, but social housing was shut out entirely. It was a huge disappointment. But we’re still fighting, and now ...

Next Wednesday 11/17: support $64 million more for social housing! We didn't get a single dollar extra for social housing in the budget process, and it's crucial we act NOW to buy land before housing speculation and evictions get worse.

Social housing in SF faces delays!
The Oversight Board for the social housing fund has not yet met, despite being appointed 3 months ago.
Today, we sent a letter to San Francisco Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development requesting the inaugural meeting of the Housing Stability Fund Oversight Board be held within a month.
We are keeping an eye on this inaugural meeting and hope it will be noticed soon as requested.

Prop K authorized 10,000 units of municipal housing and relied on Prop I to fund it.
The Mayor, however, does not want to use Prop I funds as voters intended.

Mayor London Breed 倫敦.布里德 cannot ignore the will of the voters this brazenly. The intent of Prop I to fund rent relief and social housing was clear to voters.
The Mayor cannot feign ignorance now and act like she is representing SF voters.

The voters approved Prop. I last fall to support tenants and affordable housing, but the mayor says she will use the money for her own priorities.

Four months ago, 73.5% of SF voters approved Prop K, allowing SF to create a Municipal Housing for All pilot program. But the Mayor's Office of Housing and Mayor Breed have yet to say a word.
Sign our petition and share your thoughts on what this would mean to you! https://actionnetwork.org/letters/sf-municipal-housing-pilot/
What are the benefits of Municipal Housing for All?
- Financially sustainable
- Focused on low-income tenants
- Independent from HUD defunding, HUD tenant discrimination laws
- Locally regulated
- Strong environmental standards
- Good-paying jobs
- Permanent public ownership
Our petition lays a clear path forward to recreating a public housing infrastructure in SF. We've been working on this for over four years.
We need the Mayor's Office to listen to 73.5% of SF voters to make this a reality.
Take a minute to sign on and share your story! https://actionnetwork.org/letters/sf-municipal-housing-pilot/
Tell Mayor Breed: Fund Municipal Housing for All NOW!
The federal government’s classist and racist defunding of HUD public housing has directly led to more homelessness and worsened our housing crisis. It is time for San Francisco to join other major cities around the world — including Vienna, Austria and Singapore — in producing high-quality Mun...
