Well, my esteemed Federal colleagues, I'll be retiring with 32+ years of federal service on July 31, 2015. My career started as a GS-4 Tax Examiner with IRS in Philadelphia, crossed over to Dept. of Labor with Wage and Hour, OASAM, and OSHA, and ends with this GS-14 FEB Executive Director position in San Francisco. Our FEB Leadership Development Program (LDP) Cohort threw me a surprise party last week, and the Board of Directors had a lovely cake and very nice comments at last week's Board meeting. Received a Wellness Ambassador Award from Federal Occupational Health (with Yasmeen Hantuli, in photo). More fun to come, I'm told. Lots of adventures ahead. Thanks for all your support and friendship through the years. Mahalo and Aloha!

LGBT Discrimination Protections for Federal Workers

Today, four Federal Government agencies with roles in ensuring fairness in the federal workplace released a guide on the rights and processes available to applicants and employees who allege sexual orientation or gender identity discrimination. The guide is being reissued after more than a decade and has been substantially revised to reflect major developments in the law.
The agencies collaborating on the guide are the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC), and the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB).
The guide is entitled, “Addressing Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination in Federal Civilian Employment: A Guide to Employment Rights, Protections, and Responsibilities.” It can be found at www.opm.gov/LGBTGuide.

U.S. EPA Administrator McCarthy joins San Francisco Bay agencies to celebrate nation’s largest solar energy partnership

SAN FRANCISCO – On Wednesday, May 13, U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will join Bay Area agencies to celebrate the nation’s largest local government collaborative for solar power and launch the nation’s first federal solar partnership. Administrator McCarthy, the federal government’s point person for the battle against climate change, will be joined by Bay Area officials and solar industry executives at the West Winton Landfill in Hayward, a centerpiece of a regional solar partnership of 19 local agencies in four Bay Area counties involving 186 solar facilities for a total of 31 megawatts of solar power. The Winton Landfill will be repurposed by installing 19,000 photovoltaic solar panels to generate over 6 megawatts of renewable power -- the first of its kind in the Bay Area and one of the largest in California.
McCarthy is also announcing the launch of a federal solar project, the first federal partnership to purchase solar power across multiple agencies, which was inspired by the success of the regional solar project and other Bay Area efforts. Like the regional project, the federal partnership -- Forest Service, Department of Energy, and General Services Administration -- will take advantage of economies of scale in solar installation at nine federal sites in San Jose, Menlo Park, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Bruno, Santa Rosa, Carson City, Reno, and Mare Island.

WHY I'M PROUD TO SERVE> I've had close to 33 years of federal service, in the Dept. of the Treasury's Internal Revenue Service, US Dept. of Labor (Wage & Hour Division, Office of Asst. Sec. for Admin. & Management, and OSHA), and for the last 4 years, with the San Francisco Bay Area Federal Executive Board., which has connected me with so many civilian, military, and postal colleagues who are dedicated and resilient. A day doesn't go by without a negative story somewhere about the federal government, but the federal workforce men and women that I've met stay focused on their agencies' missions, and on the constituents they serve. and keep delivering, no matter what. Proud to serve alongside them all.

Public Service Recognition Week 05/05/2015

From the Partnership for Public Service Webpage http://publicservicerecognitionweek.org/:
Honoring Our Public Servants.
Connecting Citizens with Their Government.
May 3–9, 2015

Celebrated the first week of May since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is organized annually by the Public Employees Roundtable (PER) and its member organizations to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees.

2015 Theme
Our theme for PSRW 2015 is Government Works. Public servants do amazing things across our great nation, around the world, and in your hometown and community. Through PSRW, we showcase their accomplishments and recognize the significant challenges they take on each and every day. We hope you’ll join us in telling these stories of how government works for the American people and about the types of work it does.

Public Service White Board: Join our white board photo campaign on Facebook and Instagram to proclaim “I ♥ public servants because…” or “I’m proud to serve because....”.

PSRW Thunderclap: Sign up for the PSRW 2015 Thunderclap campaign where a few hundred supporters can spread a message of thanks to millions of social media followers.
