BurnBot BurnBot builds and operates systems for scaling fuel treatment to prevent destructive wildfires 🔥

BurnBot is a venture-backed technology start-up developing state-of-the-art wildland fire and forestry technology to scale wildfire mitigation efforts and prevent catastrophic wildfires. Our mission is to scale wildfire mitigating fuel treatments, through the use of technology, to protect against the risk of catastrophic wildfires by utilizing our unique ecosystem of wildfire and forestry technologies. The BurnBot technology ecosystem is designed to maximize operational capacity and augment existing capabilities, enabling fire practitioners to accomplish more and reach their treatment goals, especially in sensitive areas near population centers, critical infrastructure, and the wildland-urban interface, fortifying neighborhoods, communities, and the ecosystem against the threat of catastrophic wildfires.

Welcome Brenden Phillips to BurnBot!

Brenden joins our Fuels Program team as Senior Project Manager, bringing years of experience in forestry, forest health, and fuels reduction. His background includes work with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, U.S. Forest Service, and Tahoe Resource Conservation District.

It is Brenden’s personal experience which fuels his passion for wildfire mitigation

In 2021, the Caldor Fire burned through his community in Christmas Valley near Lake Tahoe. His family’s home was spared, but many neighboring communities weren’t as fortunate. It is this experience which strengthened his commitment to helping communities prepare for wildfire.

“The underlying reason why BurnBot really excites me is to be able to implement my knowledge of forest health and fuels reduction, as well as provide communities with a much better chance against the threat of wildfire.”

Brenden is looking forward to working across different regions and landscapes, putting his experience to work on projects that help protect communities throughout the West.

When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him fly fishing, skiing, or spending time outdoors with his family. He’s also an EMT, a licensed avalanche mitigation blaster, and vice president of a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release facility.

We’re glad to have you on the team, Brenden!

This week, BurnBot welcomed insurance representatives to Incline Village, NV, to see our remote-controlled equipment at work with our Tahoe crew.

We talked about fuels treatment and a question many homeowners are asking: could reducing wildfire risk help them get or keep insurance coverage?

Thank you to The Tahoe Fund for coordinating the visit, the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District for their support, and the Aon and State Farm teams for joining us in the field. Tahoe Fund North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District

We’re heading to Sun Valley, ID for the Mountain Towns 2030 Climate Summit.

On October 13, BurnBot will be hosting a live RCU demo, showing how remote-operated equipment can support safer, more efficient fuels reduction in steep and challenging terrain.

If you’re attending MT2030, come see the RCU in action and meet the BurnBot team.

It was a great day in the field on SERAL Excelsior.

Last week, BurnBot demonstrated our remote-controlled mastication equipment during the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection field tour on the Stanislaus National Forest.

Thank you to Ty McCarthy and Nick Lombardo for representing BurnBot and showing our fuels reduction work in the Central Sierra.

We appreciate all the partners who helped make the tour happen.

Burning more fuel, more often.

Wildfire Today took a closer look at BurnBot’s RX and how remotely operated technology can help expand the window for fuels treatment.

More good fire. More acres treated. More options for getting the work done.

Wildfire conditions across the West are varying this week.

Oregon and Washington remain elevated, along with northeastern California, where dry fuels, low humidity and wind continue to be a concern.

Arizona and New Mexico are closer to normal, Montana and the Northern Rockies are comparatively quiet, and Southern California remains near normal for now, with warmer and drier conditions worth watching later in the week.

NICC’s September 1 wildfire outlook is out. Oregon/Washington and northern-eastern California stay above normal significant fire potential this month. Southern California, Arizona/New Mexico, and Montana sit near/normal, although the Southwest is still shaking off lingering drought and dry fuels early on.

Nationally, 2026 acreage burned is running at 166% of the 10-year average, with drought covering nearly 57% of the country.
Above normal or not, fuel reduction work doesn’t pause.
