Potential cuts to San Francisco’s public transit system would be significantly worse for the city’s economy than the effects of a proposed parcel tax to fund it, according to a new analysis from the controller’s office released Wednesday.⁠

The report analyzed Proposition H, which is on the Nov. 3 ballot and would impose a parcel tax to raise money for Muni. The city would also net 800 to 1,445 additional jobs over 15 years and increase its GDP by between $310 and $400 million by passing the measure, but not doing so would result in a “substantially worse transportation system,” the report warned.⁠

Without the cash infusion from Prop. H, Muni would face steep service cuts that could include reducing frequency on certain routes by up to 50 percent. ⁠

Homeowners would account for 25 percent of the tax revenue, while commercial property owners would account for 75 percent. The parcel tax would remain in place for 15 years. ⁠
⁠
Another tax measure is also on the ballot: a regional sales tax that would raise funds for transit systems across the Bay Area, including Muni, BART and Caltrain. That measure was not factored into the controller’s analysis. ⁠

For this reason, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to step away from this platform. We will continue to share updates, stories, and ways to support our work in places that align with our values of truth, compassion, and safety for all.

Yesterday, we held another incredible edition of our Street Store, giving our community access to quality clothing, shoes, and cold-weather essentials.

A New Chapter at The Gubbio Project💙

Monday marked the start of our expanded service hours, and we couldn’t be more excited! Our new afternoon window means more opportunities to provide Sacred Sleep, support, and connection for our guests.

With our services now running from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 7:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays, we’re creating a safe, welcoming space for even more people in our community.

By offering judgment-free access to services, connection to treatment and space to be throughout the day, more of our unhoused community members can be off the streets and in sanctuary.

Honoring 268 Lives: SFHOT's Homeless Memorial, 2024

Yesterday, we gathered at TThe Episcopal Church of Saint John the Evangelistfor the annual SFHOT Homeless Memorial, remembering the 268 lives lost on the streets of San Francisco this year.

Each name represents a story, a life, and a reminder that we can—and must—do more to save lives.

We are deeply honored to have been the host for this meaningful event, alongside the SSF Public Healths Street Medicine Team and SSan Francisco Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housings Homeless Outreach Team.

Let’s come together, not only to remember those we’ve lost but to take action to ensure fewer lives are cut short.
