🚨THE LEGACY OF PEOPLE POWER CONTINUES!🚨
Malaya Movement San Francisco honors the 40th anniversary of the People Power in the Philippines! This historic event saw Filipinos from across the archipelago and in the diaspora unite to demand justice and accountability from an unjust and tyrannical leadership. Their collective action successfully ended the 20 year Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorship.
We remain committed to the legacy of the EDSA People Power Movement as we continue to struggle for a truly free and democratic Philippines today. With the return of the Marcoses to office, the Filipino people face a familiar enemy. The current US-backed regime continues to use fascism and counterinsurgency to criminalize and violently repress peasants, workers, youth, women, and so on who stand up for their rights.
The same revolutionary spirit that toppled Marcos Sr. in 1986 lives on in our organizing work. Through community efforts, we have successfully supported people’s victories such as the United Educators of San Francisco’s historic win, the recent releases of Kuya G and Alma Bowman from ICE detention centers, and the release of youth leader Chantal Anicoche from the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ custody. Despite these state attacks, the people’s movement will never cease! Our strength lies in our resistance against those who prioritize profit and plunder over the needs of the masses!
If you are agitated by the fascist attacks of ICE or disgusted by the ongoing corruption of the current regime, we invite you to mobilize with us at the Philippine Consulate today, February 25th at 2:00 PM. Through our collective power and the building of a mass movement against fascism, the people will win!
Labanan ang Pasismo!
People Power Na!
Fight State Fascism!
People Power Now!
From the US to the Philippines,
ICE & AFP out of our communities!

🎉 VICTORY FOR OUR SFUSD EDUCATORS 🎉
Malaya Movement San Francisco extends our warmest congratulations to the United Educators of San Francisco (UESF) on their victory. This win reflects the power of collective action and the unwavering commitment of educators, paraprofessionals, and school workers who fight every day for the dignity of the well-being of their students, their communities and their labor. Given the ongoing & deepening cost-of-living crisis confronting educators in San Francisco, UESF has demonstrated that when people are united through solidarity, they can move mountains.
Your victory stands as a testament to what is possible when workers organize, build community support, & refuse to settle for anything less than the resources & respect our public schools deserve. At a time when many school workers struggle to afford housing and basic necessities in the very communities they serve, this contract represents a critical step toward stability, retention, & dignity for the workforce that sustains our public schools.
Victory for the United Educators of San Francisco! Because when we fight, we win! Read our full statement below.

🚨 FREE CHANTAL ANICOCHE! 🚨
Malaya Movement San Francisco joins the international community in calling for the immediate release of Chantal Anicoche from the custody of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
On January 1, in Occidental Mindoro, the AFP conducted aerial bombings which resulted in the death of 3 Mangyan children, 2 student researchers, the displacement of 200 individuals, and the destruction of agricultural products.
Chantal was immersing with the indigenous Mangyan people and conducting humanitarian aid work when the bombing occurred.
After days of no one knowing Chantal’s location, the AFP released a video on Jan 9 (Philippine Standard Time) showing Chantal. Though relieved that she is alive, we have many questions and concerns surrounding the video released. Chantal appears frightened and under duress in the video.
Remarks from the soldiers looking for fi****ms and explosives around the vicinity where Chantal was supposedly found are concerning given these remarks have been used to provide pretext to fabricate charges against human rights advocates.
Chantal is currently being held by the 203rd Infantry Brigade whose reputation is rife with human rights abuses ranging from harassment to abductions and even casualties.
Chantal is one of many individuals who have been impacted by the aerial bombings conducted by the AFP.
We demand justice for Chantal, the murdered children and researchers, and the hundreds displaced by this military aggression!
We urge all Filipinos and human rights advocates to call for Chantal’s immediate release! We demand full transparency on Chantal’s condition and assert that there is no case against her. Chantal is a beloved community leader from the United States whose organizing has spanned across indigenous issues to migrant rights and youth activism. Her release and return to her loved ones and community must be answered!
RELEASE CHANTAL!
PALAYAIN SI CHANTAL!
STOP THE BOMBINGS!
DEFEND MINDORO!

Release Chantal!
End the military’s charade, release Chantal now!
Yesterday, the 203rd Infantry Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) released videos surfacing Chantal Anicoche, a Filipina community leader from the US. Chantal was previously missing in the wake of the 203rd IB’s bombing, indiscriminate strafing and attacks in the indigenous Mangyan community of Brgy. Cabacao, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro.
In the videos, she appeared scared and possibly under duress as soldiers seemingly found, surrounded and interrogated her before bringing her to the camp of the 76th Infantry Battalion. Human rights workers and migrant advocates are looking into the current whereabouts and condition of Chantal following the release of the videos.
We find questionable the circumstances of the AFP’s videos of Chantal. It is suspicious that the AFP would find Chantal in an announced clearing operation one week into their overkill occupation of the small Sitio Mamara in Brgy. Cabacao. We are also concerned with remarks of soldiers looking for guns or explosives in the vicinity where they supposedly found Chantal. These sorts of remarks may be used as a pretext to fabricate charges of illegal possession of fi****ms and/or explosives against her.
Given the military’s overwhelming blockade of Sitio Mamara, the public cannot ascertain whether the videos of the AFP discovering Chantal were staged or otherwise. There is a possibility that rather than finding Chantal on January 8, 2PM, the military had already taken Chantal during their bombing and ground operations in Brgy. Cabacao. The alarm raised by human rights and migrant groups on Chantal’s disappearance starting January 6 may have prompted the 203rd IB to surface her through a possibly staged incident in an attempt to avoid suspicions that they held Chantal from the public for days on end.
We cannot forego the possibility of a staged video given the track record of the AFP to obfuscate the circumstances of other activists whom they forcibly disappeared. From Jhed Tamano and Jonila Castro to Dyan Gumanao and Armand Dayoha: state forces are not only known to abduct and disappear activists but even hide and deny the fact, even after they are surfaced.
The AFP and the Marcos Jr. regime must put an end to this charade. The truth of Chantal’s condition and whereabouts must come out. We assert that Chantal is a civilian with no case against her and there is no reason for the Philippine state to continue holding her under custody. She should be given immediate access to human rights groups to ensure her safety, integrity, and the protection of her rights and welfare while in military custody. We demand her immediate release to her loved ones and community.

On Monday, July 28, despite aggression by SFPD, Malaya SF joined BAYAN USA Northern CA, ICHRP, Migrante USA, Justice 4 Brandon Lee, and other grassroots organizations across Northern California for the 2025 People’s State of the Nation Address (PSONA) at the San Francisco Philippine Consulate and launching of the Tanggol Migrante (Defend Migrants) Movement!
Despite Marcos Jr.’s grandiose promises of education reform, gainful employment, accessible food and healthcare, and cracking down on corruption, Bongbong Marcos’ highest priorities appear to be securing military alliances with fascist Donald Trump. Marcos Jr. also made no mention of VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment nor her father’s imprisonment and ICC charges. Again, Marcos Jr. made no mention of the attacks on migrants in the U.S., indicating his subservience to Trump.
PSONA is our response to BBM’s State of the Nation Address, where we counteract Marcos Jr.’s false narratives and false promises. Malaya SF brings to light the every day issues faced by Filipinos at home and abroad and calls for protection for migrants, an end to red tagging, and justice for all victims of state violence.
Reject the puppet, fascist, oppressive, and dangerous US-Marcos regime!
Justice for Brandon Lee!

VICTORY! Kuya Max is Free! 🔥 Malaya Movement SF sends our utmost congratulations for Kuya Max’s release - a people’s victory!
After nearly a month of detention and solitary confinement at the Northwest Detention Center, Max Londonio — a Filipino green card holder, union leader, and community member — has finally been released.
Max was targeted by ICE’s racist campaign that is terrorizing migrant communities around the country. Since the Trump era, countless Filipinos like Aunty Lynn, Alma Bowman, and Dhenmark have been kidnapped and torn from their families.
Max’s release is a victory won through relentless organizing, love, and solidarity. This moment belongs to the tireless efforts of Max’s family, Tanggol Migrante, and to every community ally who fought for his release.
Our kababayan are being targeted by the Trump administration, and the Philippine consulate’s lack of action and response is a sign of their complicity. We demand immediate attention and accountability.
Malaya Movement SF demands that the Philippine government take immediate and substantial action to support Filipinos in detention!
Free them all!
Free Alma Bowman!
Free Ligaya Jensen!
Defend migrant workers!

There is no freedom to celebrate if the most vulnerable among us are not free! Filipinos are being attacked by ICE, subjected to wage theft and exploitative workplace conditions. Meanwhile, our homeland is being used as a launching pad for war between the U.S. and China, and the Marcos-Duterte feud is intensifying while our people are struggling to just survive.
We call for a truly free and sovereign Philippines, where our kababayan are free from detention, free from exploitation, and free from U.S. militarization of our homeland!
