Year after year, San Franciscans cite homelessness as one of their top concerns. Yet, many San Franciscans struggle to understand why homelessness persists, and even more are at a loss as to what we need to do to end it (all the more so during the pandemic).
Join us to explore these questions during our virtual event on Thursday, December 17: A Direction Home-What Will It Take To Solve Homelessness During COVID-19? We’ll be talking with national and local experts who are leading policy and programs to solve homelessness.
We'll dive deep into homelessness—and the actions being taken to solve this issue as COVID spikes and winter hits. And most importantly, we'll discover what our part of the solution is and why solutions to homelessness begin with you and me.

Andrew Jackson Bryant 17th Mayor of San Francisco
Time in office December 6, 1875---November 30, 1879

On Juvenile offenders
He called it a "gross injustice to send children of tender years" to the city's Industrial School "who, guiltless of crime, but for the misfortune of being orphans or having worthless parents. are there confined and treated as criminals, forced to associate with depravity, and when released [are] sent forth penniless and branded with a badge of disgrace." He urged establishment of separate "wards" for these children.[22]

Thought this was interesting how history often repeats itself. The mayor also drowned in the San Francisco bay during a ferry accident.
