In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to share a few events we’ve hosted at DISH that foster moments of joy and support within our community. We partner with UCSF Citywide, Episcopal Community Services, and Compass Family Services to provide on-site health services and case management at our residences.

Through weekly walking groups, coffee hours, and special events, we aim to reduce instances of isolation, encourage meeting neighbors, and create a strong foundation for residents to lean on.

At DISH, we embrace where people are on their journeys. When Tommy joined us, he was seeking a safe space for personal healing during an uncertain time.

By providing a supportive environment, we've watched Tommy not only find stability but also flourish in ways that have changed his life and extended to his neighbors, meeting them where they are in their journeys. What is next for Tommy? Read more at dishsf.org

In honor of National Pet Day, we are sharing some special moments captured with DISH residents and their furry companions. Housing stability plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of both pets and their owners. We are happy they are all part of our DISH communities.

A few weeks back, we celebrated the graduation of our second cohort of peer responders. Today, in recognition of Women’s History Month, we would like to highlight and honor Joanne Kay, our harm reduction program administrator. Joanne leads with compassion, ensures residents are heard, and plays a crucial role in making sure peer responders get the knowledge they need to help our community and other supportive housing organizations, too. Thank you, Joanne!

Last week, we celebrated the graduation of another cohort of resident peer responders! We now have 66 trained peer responders actively involved in harm reduction efforts who are available to help their neighbors. Congratulations to our recent graduates!

Join us on Thursday, March 5th (12 pm PST) via IG Live for LeaderSpring’s conversation with our very own Denise Riggins, Property Supervisor at DISH SF and Class of 2027 Emerging Women of Color LeadStrong Fellow!

About Denise:
Denise is a Black, q***r mother of three, Nana to four, and wife whose leadership is grounded in healing, equity, and collective care. With over 15 years of experience in permanent supportive housing, she practices trauma-informed leadership that centers the lived experiences of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities impacted by homelessness and systemic harm.

At DISH, we are deeply committed to bringing people home, building community, and dreaming big, and Denise leads with compassion, accountability, and care for both residents and staff. She believes leadership is an act of love that creates safety, trust, and belonging.

Through the LeaderSpring LeadStrong cohort, Denise has embraced deep self-reflection—clarifying how she wants to walk in the world, honoring what she has carried as a Black woman, and releasing what no longer serves her. In these dark and uncertain times, she holds fast to the belief that love, healing, and community will prevail.
