Coalition on Homelessness Formed in 1987, the Coalition on Homelessness organizes alongside homeless and low-income San Franciscans in the struggle for social and economic justice.

Formed in 1987, the Coalition on Homelessness aims to foster the active participation of homeless and low-income San Franciscans in the struggle for social and economic justice. Through an integrated approach that combines outreach, peer support, leadership development, public education, advocacy and community organizing, the Coalition defends the human rights of homeless and low-income residents, while advocating for permanent solutions to homelessness--taking into account not only poverty's devastating effects, but also its root causes. To participate, there are two work groups that meet every week which you can join:

Housing Justice - Tuesdays at 12:00p

Human Rights - Wednesdays at 12:30p

The COH also produces and distributes the Street Sheet, the longest running street newspaper which has raised millions of dollars directly for vendors.

Social housing creates deeply affordable homes that are community owned and available to a wider mix of incomes than traditional public housing, it allows for democratic governance of housing where tenants have a say in how their housing is maintained and allows for permanently de commodified housing that remains permanently affordable!

The City plans to recontract more than $500 million in annual grants and contracts that will greatly alter our homeless response system.

San Francisco continues to suffer a humanitarian crisis with thousands on the streets. The city can restructure the homeless service system as much as possible; however the real issue is the dire need for affordable housing.

Homeless people, homeless rights advocates and service providers are demanding a just allocation of funds and an equitable redesign from the Mayors office ✊🏡
