Juneteenth, also referred to as Freedom Day, commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Texas, marking the end of slavery in the United States. Today, we celebrate freedom, honor the resilience and achievements of Black Americans, and reflect on our nation’s continuing pursuit of liberty and equality ❤️💛💚

Happy Flag Day from ALA California Girls State! 🇺🇸
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the first official flag of the United States. Nearly 250 years later, the American flag remains a symbol of the freedoms, opportunities, and democratic principles that unite our nation.
June 14 also marks the birthday of the United States Army, established in 1775. Today, as we prepare for the 83rd Session of ALA California Girls State, we honor both the flag that represents our nation and the generations of service members who have defended it ❤️🤍💙
