Today isn’t just a day off of work and school- Memorial Day is a time for us to honor and remember the military personnel who gave their lives while serving in the Armed Forces. This American tradition dates back to the Civil War, and was nationally standardized in 1971. It’s a day of reflection, and ALA California Girls State thanks and remembers those who gave the ultimate sacrifice ❤️🕊️💙

Since World War I, the red poppy has stood as a symbol of sacrifice, service, and remembrance. National Poppy Day reminds us to wear a red poppy in remembrance of the fallen, and in support of all those who have worn our nation’s uniform.
