THE EXCITEMENT AND DISRUPTION THAT "TECH" COMPANIES CREATE SHOULDN'T ABSOLVE THESE COMPANIES OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES TO OPERATE WITHIN THE CONFINES OF OUR CITY ORDINANCES OR OUR TAX AND INDUSTRY REGULATIONS. We think Airbnb should adhere to its own policies (to operate legally) and actively participate in this by:

“Public health is our priority,” a spokesperson from Airbnb said in an emailed statement to SFGATE. “We continue to provide hosts and guests information on local health orders to help keep communities safe. We want to be good partners to state and local officials and have also introduced new measures that ask guests to confirm they have checked local rules and restrictions before confirming eligibility and completing a booking.”

Translation: We only care about making money. We are not responsible for the irresponsibility of our operators and guests, and we don't give a rip about any laws that might protect public health or threaten our revenue. You poor chumps are on your own.

We remember the Dot Com Bubble. People claim "this time is different" because the companies going public are older and have actual revenue. Yes, but they also have staggering losses. In 12 years, Airbnb has booked only three profitable quarters. And there's no sign that record improves any time soon.
