Wednesday, April 28th is Denim Day, a day where we wear denim in support of survivors of sexual assault.
Denim Day started in 1992 after an Italian Supreme Court overturned a r**e conviction, stating that because the victim wore tight jeans, she must have helped remove them, which implied consent. Women in Italy’s Parliament responded by protesting in denim, helping to ignite a movement to end victim-blaming and calling for an end to sexual violence.
We wear denim to support survivors of sexual assault. We know clothing never equals consent. We believe survivors, and reaffirm our commitment to end sexual violence and gender based violence.

During , we are inspired and moved as we recognize and honor and at our Commission meeting this evening. Both organizations are on the frontlines, supporting and protecting survivors of domestic violence. They are invaluable members of our community, and we are deeply grateful to them for their decades of advocacy and work.
