The Real Reason for Putting Water in Whiskey
Mark Twain is credited with the coinage “Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting over.” Given this observation, one might be hesitant to let the liquids share a glass, especially since opinions on the matter are often as hardline as Twain’s. Confused about some of the terms used in whisky production? We wanted to take a moment to clear up a few common Whisky misconceptions we've encountered throughout our journey...
- Bourbon does not need to be produced in Bourbon County to carry its name. Legally (yes, there's a law), a bourbon must contain at least 51% corn in its mashbill and must be aged in new, American Oak barrels. To be called a "straight" whisky, it must be aged for a minimum of 2 years.
- Single malt Scotch originates from a single distillery in Scotland (not a single grain). Blends, like Johnnie Walker source whiskies from multiple distilleries.
- Tennessee Whisky (like Jack Daniels) must come from TN and it goes through a filtration step known as the Lincoln County process, which filters the distillate through maple charcoal.

We've experimented with styles of delivery, explored new venues, had some incredible collaborations with performers and drank some fine whisky, and it all would have been nothing without your enthusiasm for the Project and the 'spirit' (pun intended). We can't thank you enough! We'll be kicking off the new year with another event the end of this month, so keep an eye out for your invite and get on the guest list early!
