Meet our Co-MC: Lily Jamali, North America Technology Correspondent - BBC News

Lily Jamali is the North America Technology Correspondent for BBC News based in San Francisco. She joined the BBC in September after three years at public radio’s “Marketplace” where she served as a senior reporter and host of the program “Marketplace Tech.”

Over her two decades as a reporter and host, Lily’s work has been honored with multiple national and regional journalism awards. Like a good Persian, she holds several degrees including a BA from UCLA, an MS from Columbia Journalism School, and an MBA from NYU Stern.

👉🏼Meet our dance performance: Samia Karimi
For the past 18 years Samia Karimi has trained, performed, choreographed and taught in the dance forms of the SWANA region with various dance companies, including Ballet Afsaneh and Nava Dance Collective.

Samia is currently expanding opportunities to continue research in Afghan dance, to collaborate with other artists and to continue teaching Afghan dance to new students. While keeping her passion for dance alive as an independent artist, Samia has also worked in the nonprofit arts space in the Bay Area as well as refugee resettlement in Los Angeles.

Samia invites everyone, of all ages and backgrounds to embrace dance as a language of devotion and joy and as the ultimate expression of freedom.

Meet the DJ: DJ AMP (AMIR MAJLESSI)
At the age of seven, he began playing the Daff, marking the start of his musical journey.

After immigrating to the U.S., his passion expanded as he explored music production software, creating mashups and remixes.

During college, he completed courses in commercial recording and sound engineering, mastering Logic Pro.
In 2008, he started DJing with CDJs, drawing inspiration from artists like Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, and Harwell. This sparked his passion for performing and energizing crowds with his unique mixing techniques.

Beyond a profession, DJing became a deep passion. What sets him apart is his technical precision and willingness to experiment with diverse musical styles and mixing different genres and decades of music to surprise and captivate his audience.

His innovative approach blends timeless classics with contemporary sounds, creating a dynamic and unforgettable musical experience that keeps the crowd engaged and energized.

We are thrilled to share will be joining us for the opening performance of Nowruz 1404 SF Gala at San Francisco City Hall.

Ms. Neda began her artistic career with Maestro Mohammad Nejad and entered the world of professional music by singing famous songs such as 'Hejr-e-eshgh,' 'Bahar Oumad,' and 'Man Gharibam.' She continued her collaborations with various artists in Iran, introducing numerous pop and folk songs to the music world, including 'Vabasteh,' 'Asemon Bebar,' 'Bemouny Baram,' and others.

With the support and backing of the reputable company Tmbax Music, managed by Mr. Owliaei, she introduced these works to the music world.

'Bahar Oumad' is one of the compositions by Maestro Mohammad Nejad, and songs like 'Jashn-e Eid,' 'Asemon Babar,' and 'Gol-e Rose,' composed by Mehdi Ansaripour with lyrics by Masoumeh Rezaizadeh, are among the prominent works performed by Ms. Neda.

Michael Nejad is a Persian-born master multi-instrumentalist with an international reputation as a composer, performer and recording artist. As a child, Persian classical music was passed down to him from his father.

Nejad holds a degree in Fine Arts for Musicianship and Performance from Tehran University and is proficient in both the Western and Persian musical styles. Nejad plays 56 different types of traditional and western musical instruments. He’s been called a musical virtuoso, for his outstanding instrumental talent.

✨We are excited to share will be performing at Nowruz Gala at San Francisco City on March 21st ✨

Arash Avin was born in Tehran, Iran, at a time where it was a place of pure potential for growing musicians and performers. Unfortunately, a revolution hit his native country, which forbade the production and performance of most styles of music. Despite this forced silence, Arash Avin managed to keep his passion for music alive.

When the ban on music eased, Arash Avin released one of the first post-revolution albums, Do Saye, which, due to federal regulations, had to be soft-tempo and more melodic than dance. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in Tehran, Arash Avin released a second, more upbeat album, named Safar. Although dance music was now legal, it was still forbidden to dance in public. Nevertheless, Safar soared high on the charts, where it became one of the top albums of the year.

Arash Avin then relocated to America to further explore his career in the vibrant Los Angeles music community. He has been the lead male vocalist in one of LA’s top world music groups.

Arash Avin is a contemporary Iranian-American singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, and painter. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Tehran University of Art.
