Today we celebrate the Feast of St. John Paul II.

In his Message for the UN Year of Volunteer Work (2001), he spoke directly to volunteers about the dignity and joy of serving others:

“What makes a volunteer dedicate his/her life to others? First of all, the innate movement of the heart that inspires every human being to help his fellow man. It is a law of existence. A volunteer experiences a joy that goes far beyond what he has done when he succeeds in giving himself freely to others.

For this reason, volunteer work is a special factor that contributes to humanization. Thanks to the many forms of solidarity and of service that they promote and make concrete, volunteer workers make society more attentive to the dignity of the human person.”

We give thanks for all volunteers who embody this call in their daily service.

🌍 Today is World Food Day — and we’re celebrating the volunteers who make sure no one is forgotten at the table.

Every Friday, Kitchen of Hope in Rhode Island prepares and delivers hundreds of restaurant-quality meals to seniors, homebound neighbors, and families facing food insecurity — powered by a volunteer community that shows up week after week.

What began with nine volunteers preparing 75 meals a week has grown into a ministry that has served more than 58,000 meals, with volunteers caring for neighbors far beyond the dinner table.

It’s a beautiful reminder of what can happen when people bring their time, talents, and compassion together in service.

Today we celebrate the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Avila — the first female Doctor of the Church.

She’s remembered for her wisdom, courage, and spiritual clarity — gifts that still inspire leaders today.

We’re grateful for the many leaders in parish life who teach, organize, encourage, and serve with that same steady dedication. Your work shapes your communities in ways big and small.

Today is the Feast of St. Carlo Acutis, patron saint of the Internet, computer users, programmers, and youth.

His life shows that digital tools can deepen communities of faith.

We're thankful that MSP brings people together in the Church through service!

Today we celebrate the feast day of Saint Carlo Acutis (1991–2006), the millennial teen whose short life was shaped by his deep love for the Eucharist and his desire to share that love with others.

Carlo was canonized a saint just last year on September 7, 2025. In the words of Pope Leo XIV, he is “an invitation to all of us, especially young people, not to squander our lives, but to direct them upwards and make them masterpieces.”
