It’s a whole new way to experience the city. We talk about science. We do hands-on activities. We explore the properties of everyday things. All while eating tasty treats and meeting other folks like yourself—curious, active, and a little beyond the ordinary. Each tour begins in a park or public space, where we have a short chat about our subject and do some experiments. often involving something
edible. From there, we walk to nearby interesting places and ponder the science we find there. How did these rocks get so wavy looking? What's the difference between teas in this Chinatown shop? Along the way, we do more science activities and have a chance to get to know each other. At Discovery Street, we hold two beliefs near and dear:
1) Everyone knows something interesting, and people learn best from each other, so we encourage sharing.
2) The world is a pretty darned amazing place when you take the time to look closely and notice the really cool stuff. What kinds of tours can you take? We have tours about the science of food, SF geology, inventions, even the science of walking! And at Christmastime, we offer a special evening tour about the science of light. Tours are about two miles long and offer some exercise. We delight in taking you to nooks and crannies that even locals don't know about, while bringing a unique perspective on this beautiful place.
