If you've ever complained about California's housing crisis, this is your moment to do something about it ‼️

Only 7% of Californians have returned their ballots. In a state with over 23 million registered voters, this primary may be decided by a tiny slice of the population.

Earlier this month, we co-hosted a forum with CA Governor candidates and asked them to share their visions for housing. Hear where they stand and make a plan to vote by Tuesday, June 2! 🗳️🏠

Last Friday, HAC did something major. ‼️

We put every leading Democratic candidate for California governor on one stage and made housing the only item on the agenda. The conversation we sparked in Oakland reached a national audience through The Ezra Klein Show and outlets across the country.

This happened because of the power of this coalition. The advocates who showed up, the partners who stood with us, and the thousands of pro-housers across California who have made housing a primary issue in this election.

Housing is on the ballot — because, together, we put it there.

Thank you to our co-hosts, the San Francisco Foundation, the Ezra Klein Show, and the Terner Center at UC Berkeley!

⚠️ Measure ULA was sold as a tax on mansions & a win for affordable housing. But new research reveals a dangerous trade-off, and Angelenos are paying the price.

Since went into effect in 2022, LA City has seen:

❗32% drop in multifamily homes built annually
❗67% drop in property transactions >$5M
❗$488M lost in local tax revenue

This is because Measure ULA did not differentiate between a $5M+ mansion and a $5M+ apartment building, placing a heavy new tax on apartments in the middle of a housing shortage.

And fewer homes being built = fewer property transactions = less local tax revenue in the long run. That means less funding for schools. Less for emergency services, parks, and community-led programs that Angelenos depend on.

We can reform the parts of Measure ULA that aren’t working, while preserving the parts that are.

📣 TAKE ACTION: Send a letter to LA City Hall today! https://buff.ly/m2Hdaqe

Urge your Council Member to address the unintended consequences of Measure ULA while there’s still a chance to place reforms on the November ballot.

It takes 2 minutes. Your city needs to hear from you. 🫵
