The SF Treasurer’s Office launches the Economic Justice Center, uniting the Office of Financial Empowerment and the Financial Justice Project to build on twenty years of first-in-the-nation work. The Office has created several first-of-their-kind programs to help residents access financial coaching, safe bank accounts, and save for post-secondary education.

Wondering what the Economic Justice Center actually does? Here’s the short version: we build programs that make San Francisco work better for the people who need it most.

That means making it easier to open a bank account, access free financial counseling, clear fines and fees that stand in the way of a fresh start and visit this city’s incredible museums — no matter your income.

These aren’t side projects. They are the foundation of a fair city. Learn more about what we do at https://treasurer.sf.gov/economicjustice/

Today is a big day for San Francisco. 🎉

Treasurer José Cisneros's Office is proud to launch the Economic Justice Center — a new home for 20 years of first-in-the-nation work putting money back in the pockets of the people who need it most.

The Office of Financial Empowerment and the The San Francisco Financial Justice Project are now united under one roof, one mission, and one name. Together, these programs have reached hundreds of thousands of San Franciscans — and shaped economic justice policy in cities across the country.

We are just getting started. Visit https://treasurer.sf.gov/economicjustice/ to explore our history, our mission, and what comes next. →

We're thrilled to share a clip from Treasurer José Cisneros recent sit-down with SFGovTV. We talked about a side of the Treasurer’s Office many people don’t see: our Financial Empowerment Center.

In 2025 alone, our counselors helped over 1,700 San Franciscans tackle debt, build credit, and open bank accounts. Whether it’s a family saving for a first home or a resident clearing old city debt to get a fresh start, we are here to help you build a stable financial future.

🎧 Listen to the clip to hear how we’re putting economic justice into action.
