Part Participatory Pop-Up Restaurant, Part Community Dinner, Part Eat-In, Part Performance, Part Culinary Arts Non-Profit

Q***R FOOD FOR LOVE is a collaboration of artists, activists, and cooks who make food for community not profit. Since 2007, we have been organizing seasonal, organic, vegan three-course sit-down dinners made with love for q***r folks in San Francisco, bringing farm-to-table consciousness to the q***r community, and q***r and feminist consciousness to the kitchen, in the Bay Area and beyond. Q***R SCIENCE: A Molecular Gaystronomy Laboratory 06/22/2011

For the closing spectacle of DIRTSTAR at the National Q***r Arts Festival, Q***R FOOD FOR LOVE designed a molecular gaystronomy laboratory, to explore nature from an unnatural point of view. Using hydrocolloids and the mysteries of SCIENCE, homos constructed DIY amuses bouches: cubes of rose gel, suspended bubbles of basil foam, fresh strawberry caviar spheres, and brittle bites of tarragon and garden flower glass. Summer, deconstructed, and reconstructed, in a variety of new sights and textures. Just like homosexuality, "it ain't natural," but it sure is yummy, and you won't know it until you try it. Viva summer, viva DirtStar, and viva sexperimentation.

Q***r Food For Love: POP ART Pop Tarts! 06/06/2011

"Most Americans don't make pop tarts from scratch, and they certainly don't choose to eat food made by homos if they can help it. But here at Q***R FOOD, we do all sorts of things in the name of art." This and more wisdom at the link below.

Q***r Food does David Wojnarowicz! 06/05/2011

Q***r Food For Love pays tribute to the spirit of resistance to censorship in the q***r arts. "Ants on a Cross" is our whimsical send-up of the American classic children's snack, "ants on a log," for David Wojnarowicz, a gay artist whose 1987 work about AIDS, "A Fire in My Belly," was censored by the Smithsonian in 2010. Buckling under pressure from the religious right, the Smithsonian cut footage of ants crawling on a crucifix from his film (which was meant as a metaphor for the suffering of people with AIDS in the 1980's), afraid that it would reignite the culture wars about government funding for the arts in America. To welcome q***r art historian Jonathan Katz, we served "Ants on a Cross," in masks depicting David Wojnarowicz's face, whose lips are sewn together, as a visual metaphor for the 1980's ACT-UP slogan, "Silence=Death."

We Heart Gay Art! Q***R FOOD FOR LOVE + Jonathan Katz 06/04/2011

Q***R FOOD FOR LOVE kicks off Q***r Arts Month with the RADAR reading series and the Q***r Cultural Center, welcoming curator and art historian Jonathan Katz to San Francisco to discuss artistic representations of sexual difference and desire, and political and religious censorship, at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Art by homos, words by J Katz, snacks by Q***R FOOD FOR LOVE! We heart gay art.
