The revised California state budget now includes $20 million for CASA programs! We are grateful to Assembly member Matt Haney, Assembly member Catherine Stefani and Senator Scott Wiener, for seeing the impact that CASA volunteers make.

Governor Gavin Newsom, the Assembly and Senate agree that children in foster care and the juvenile justice system need the transformative support of a CASA volunteer. We urge you to include the $20 million for CASA funding in your final budget.

This week, many high school seniors are navigating big emotions.

One of the biggest milestones of their lives may look different than they imagined, and for many, having a support system will make all the difference.

This is especially important for older youth in foster care.

During Immigrant Heritage Month, weremain committed to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive advocacy so every child can thrive.

Our CASA volunteers are trained to center each child’s lived experience, including their culture and language. At the systemic level, we train local programs on how to respond to immigration-related issues, and advocate for bills that support our immigrant families in accessing the services and supports they need.

The California state budget is being finalized right now, and the most important decisions will be made in the next two weeks. What happens in Sacramento over these next few days will directly affect 50,000+ children and youth in California’s foster care system.

We encourage CASA supporters to contact their representatives with a simple message:

"Thank you for your support of foster youth. Please do all you can to reinstate the $20 million per year in funding for CASA programs in California."
