For 25 years, North Beach Citizens has worked alongside our neighbors to help create pathways toward stability, dignity, and hope. Keith’s story is a powerful reminder of why this work matters:
“Because of the compassionate and capable support of the North Beach Citizens staff, my life has changed in ways I never thought possible… I feel deeply supported, cared for, and able to trust them with my needs.”
With support from his case manager, Adam, Keith was able to avoid eviction, connect with medical care, and receive hands-on help during one of the most difficult times in his life.
Housing stability is more than shelter - it is compassion, trust, and a stronger community for all.

At the heart of North Beach Citizens is a simple idea: neighbors helping neighbors. 💛
We see this in powerful acts of generosity like Anne Halsted and Wells Whitney, whose legacy gift this year supports nearly 6% of our operating budget, helping expand our work. And in deeply personal ways like a donor who, after we cared for her brother during homelessness, chose to include North Beach Citizens in her estate plans, finding comfort in knowing he was supported with dignity.
These are more than gifts — they’re lasting commitments that make our work possible.

Small acts of kindness create big impact in our community. 🙏

We are deeply honored to share that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has presented a Certificate of Honor to our Executive Director, Kristie Fairchild.
This recognition reflects her more than two decades of unwavering commitment-since 2003-embodying the very best of San Francisco’s values through compassionate, dignified care for those we serve.
Kristie’s leadership is rooted in something simple yet powerful: showing up, building trust, and believing in the potential of every individual who walks through our doors.
This moment is not only a celebration of her dedication, but of the entire North Beach Citizens community-staff, volunteers, partners, and donors who make this work possible every day.
We are proud, grateful, and inspired.

Executive Director Kristie Fairchild met with Mayor Daniel Lurie alongside our founder Francis Ford Coppola to reflect on the original vision of North Beach Citizens in honor of our 25th Anniversary. As Mr. Coppola discussed his first ideas rooted in the work by Jane Jacobs and the belief that strong neighborhoods are the foundation of a thriving city. In her seminal 1961 book, The Death and Life of Great American Cities, she argues that the public peace of cities, and particularly of a city’s sidewalks, is kept by a network of local residents having input on how their neighborhoods develop. She understood the importance neighborhoods hold as key sites for core service interventions for the youth, older adults, and low-income residents.
From the very beginning, our organization has been about neighbors helping neighbors with trust, integrity, and respect.
That vision continues to guide us today.
Together, we remain committed to strengthening our neighborhoods and ensuring that every member of our community is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you for all that you do — this month and every month. 🙏

A powerful reminder that the impact we make today can last for generations.
We are deeply honored to have received a legacy gift from Erin Day, an accomplished journalist and leader in public broadcasting in Washington D.C. whose life’s work focused on global understanding and truth. She passed away in January and in her will, Erin chose to support North Beach Citizens-an act of generosity inspired by the care her brother Matthew received by North Beach Citizens during his time as housing insecure more than a decade ago.
Her major donor gift is more than a donation-it is a testament to the lasting impact of compassion, dignity, and community.
Legacy giving is one of the most meaningful ways to ensure that our work continues. Even a small percentage left in a will or bequest can make a profound difference-helping us meet critical needs, sustain our programs, and walk alongside our clients on their path to stability.
We invite you to consider including North Beach Citizens in your legacy. Together, we can ensure that hope, support, and transformation endure for years to come.
Please contact us for more information or instruction.

At this year’s La Dolce Primavera Spring Benefit, Mayor Daniel Lurie proclaimed March 20th as North Beach Citizens Day in San Francisco — a powerful recognition of the impact our community makes every day. 🌸CA Senator Scott Wiener also presented heartfelt remarks along with a California State Senate Resolution.
Through innovative programs and personalized support, we serve over 650 neighbors each year, helping people access food, secure housing, and build lasting stability.
With a beautiful evening of music by the Nick Rossi Swing Six and incredible community support, we raised over $400,000 to continue this vital work.
We’re so grateful to everyone who made this night possible. 💛
