Congratulations Steve, Alexis, and the entire Reddit (YC S05) team on the IPO!

"Reddit the site (and now app) is such a fundamentally useful thing that it's almost unkillable."

To celebrate Reddit's IPO, Paul Graham shares what was special about the Reddits — and how they were one of the reasons YC was started:

The Reddits | Y Combinator "I met the Reddits before we even started Y Combinator. In fact they were one of the reasons we started it."

VetRec (YC S23) is helping veterinarians automate the process of note-taking in a matter of seconds by generating SOAP-style notes with AI immediately after each visit. No need to use any awkward dictation software or manually input notes anymore.

Veterinarians are swamped with filling out SOAP notes. Either they spend countless hours after the day writing them or spend part of the consultation looking at a screen filling out details and taking in the history of the pet. Both of these lead to burnout and hundreds of hours lost.

Founders David and Kevin come from Costa Rica and Venezuela respectively, and have a deep passion for technology. They met 10 years ago at Penn State and have built projects together since. Both of them spent 6+ years in Microsoft building large-scale Data & AI platforms. After talking with veterinarian family and friends, they decided to solve this problem.

After launching just two months ago, 100+ veterinarians are using VetRec and saving hundreds of hours on note-taking processes.

"San Francisco and the Bay Area was already the number one place in the world where the best software engineers, the best PMs, the best designers, the best executives would gravitate. I want there to be startup hubs everywhere else but there will always be the number one city, and it's San Francisco."

The world is full of founders with expertise that could be tapped into something new and great. Our hope is that our Request for Startups (RFS) inspires some of those people to do so — or if they’re already building, to apply to YC.

The RFS is a YC tradition — you can find examples going back as far as 2009. Each one offers up ideas we’d want to see made real, in spaces that we believe will be important in the coming decades.

If you aren't sure what idea is best to work on, these RFSs should provide a useful jumping-off point to begin your ideation process: https://www.ycombinator.com/blog/ycs-latest-request-for-startups.

Applications for the YC Summer 2024 batch are now open and the early deadline to apply is February 20. Apply at ycombinator.com/apply.

There aren’t a ton of people in the world who can say they founded a billion dollar company. There are far fewer who can say they did it twice. YC Group Partner Tom Blomfield is one of them.

CodeAnt AI - YC W24 helps organizations reduce tech debt by detecting and auto-fixing bad code across the entire codebase.

If bad code is slowing down your development velocity, or your developers are spending more time fixing code than shipping features — CodeAnt AI can help.

It uses AI and rule-based engines to detect and auto-fix issues, including anti-patterns, dead and duplicate code, complex functions, security vulnerabilities, and more. Plus, it documents your entire codebase.

Co-founders Amartya Jha and Chinmay Bharti have written applications and scaled them to handle billions of requests daily. They experienced firsthand how 'bad' code can slow development and increase organizational costs. So they're building exactly what they needed, with CodeAnt AI.

Toma Voice (YC W24) offers voice AI agents that let businesses automate phone calls and perform tasks over the phone, just like a highly trained human agent would.

For businesses, phone call operations are labor-intensive, expensive, inconsistent in quality, and hard to scale. As a result, customers have to put up with long wait times, transfers to agents with no context, and robotic call flows.

Toma provides the most delightful call experience for customers and brings efficiency to business operations, by providing:

🗣️ A natural-sounding voice experience over the phone
🪄 A simple way to design call flows and manage AI agents
🧩 Easy integration into your existing software to pull information and perform tasks on/off call

Learn more at https://www.ycombinator.com/launches/KDB-toma-automates-your-phone-calls-with-ai.

The founders, Monik Pamecha, Anthony Krivonos, and Junyu Huang, believe that voice is the best way for consumers to interact with AI in the future. Drawing from their extensive experience building large-scale customer messaging software, LLM applications, and conversational AI working at Scale, Uber, Lyft, and Braze, they're confident they can make the experience 10x better.

Congrats Monik, Anthony, and Junyu on the launch — and welcome to YC!
