April is Earthquake Preparedness Month and we were off to a shaky start! The reported 4.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred within San Andreas Regional Center's area (Santa Cruz County), along with the upcoming remembrance of “The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake,” reminds us there is no better time than now to refresh on your earthquake preparedness skills.
Events such as these are a great reminder that all/any emergencies, including earthquakes, can occur at any time of any day. It's important to understand the seriousness behind these incidents and to plan ahead.
The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has provided a dedicated page for April 2026 Earthquake Preparedness Month that provides information on steps to prepare, resources, videos, along with additional information.

April is Earthquake Preparedness Month. California Governor's Office of Emergency Services reminds Californians to download the free MyShake App to receive an alert so you can “Drop, Cover and Hold On” - seconds before you feel the shaking. For details, visit earthquake.ca.gov

This March, we recognize Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by celebrating inclusion, access, and community. Everyone deserves to be welcomed, valued, and seen—and to have what they need to participate fully in everyday life.
People with developmental disabilities are neighbors, coworkers, friends, and community members. When barriers are removed and opportunities are accessible, everyone benefits.
Join Golden Gate Regional Center and California’s Department of Developmental Services in honoring the experiences, contributions, and rights of people with developmental disabilities—this month and every month.
