Don’t Bury This American Torture Story: Read the Report 06/23/2015

Please join our friends, Amnesty International, in the Protest Against CIA Torture this Friday:

LOCATION AND TIME UPDATE

In order to put as much pressure on the Justice Department we will have our protest only at the San Francisco Federal Building at 10:30am instead of originally starting at San Francisco City Hall. We are inviting our United Nations allies and coalition partners to join our protest before the 70th Anniversary of UN Charter event and celebration with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that starts at 12:00pm.

On June 26th which is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture Amnesty International members, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Survivors International, International Justice Resource Center, Four Freedoms Forum, U.S. Human Rights Networkand other coalition partners will protest in front of the San Francisco Federal Building/Justice Department offices on the corner of Golden Gate Ave and Larkin Street to demand the Justice Department read the Senate Torture Report and hold torture perpetrators accountable. http://www.amnestyusa.org/our-work/issues/torture/read-the-report

Where: San Francisco Federal Building/Justice Department on the corner of Golden Gate Ave and Larkin Street
When: Friday, June 26, 2015
Time: 10:30am – 12:00pm

Speakers
Zahra Billoo, Executive Director, Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR)
Joshua Cooper, Director, Lecturer at Hawai'i Institute for Human Rights, University of Hawai'i

The Justice Department has a duty to investigate, and to hold those responsible for abuses accountable but they have apparently not even read the full Senate Torture Report. All the public has right now is a declassified summary, but the Justice Department has the full, 6,700 page report and we are concerned that they are not opening it due to a cynical attempt to circumvent U.S. open records law and prevent its release.

We will have speakers, signs, flyers, orange jumpsuits and mock prison cell. We will read parts of the report and try to video these reading so we can post them on social media. We will also deliver the report and also letters demanding the report is read and people are held accountable for torture. We will also pass out flyers from people leaving the Federal Building. Please RSVP below on eventbrite or Facebook and also invite friends. We also need help organizing and promoting the event so please let me know if you or your organization can support and co-sponsor.
