A decade ago, California Academy of Sciences and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County launched the City Nature Challenge. This year, more than 102,000 people around the world made over 3 million observations, helping create a global snapshot of biodiversity so that scientists can help protect at-risk species and habitats.

There are still so many observations waiting for identifications and you don't have to be an expert to help scientists document them, download the FREE iNaturalist.org app and catch them all!

Concrete production is responsible for roughly 8% of global COβ‚‚ emissions, more than the aviation industry.

At Buchanan Mall, SF Environment, San Francisco Public Works, and San Francisco Recreation and Park Department partnered to pilot low carbon concrete across real public infrastructure applications, helping demonstrate that lower carbon construction can still meet the durability, safety, and performance standards required in a city like San Francisco.

The pilot also showed there was no added cost premium associated with using the lower carbon concrete mixes.

At the same time, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department partnered with the Fillmore community to reimagine Buchanan Mall as a vibrant public space built for both people and the climate.

Perhaps most importantly, this project helps pave the way for broader adoption across the city. When a city agency changes how it builds, the impact scales quickly across future projects, public spaces, and infrastructure investments.
