"Working in street medicine and palliative care showed me how much care depends on coordination and communication across teams, providers, and systems that don’t always talk to each other. It also shifted how I think about care more broadly. I learned that care isn’t always about having answers or fixing things quickly, but about showing up consistently, building trust, and being okay with uncertainty while navigating complex systems alongside people."

"I think the most impactful part of my service was in large part those relationships that I built with patients and with staff. At the heart of it, besides helping people to manage their chronic conditions through , those relationships that you build through are also a big part of what the program is about. Building trust with patients helps bridge the gap between patients and the overall clinic... I feel like that's something that I still think about today." 🍎

NHC SF, Assemble! Last month, members served with San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium’s Street Outreach Services (SFCCC SOS) by packing health and hygiene supplies. Our members had so much fun racing to see who could pack more kits.
As the weather gets colder, competing basic needs for food, shelter, safety, hygiene, and health become increasingly urgent. We would like to extend another heartfelt welcome to ’s 2024-2025 Cohort! 🎉
Pre-Service Orientation consisted of many presentations and getting-to-know-you activities, but arguably one of the most impactful moments was the Panel. 7 alumni from multiple NHC San Francisco cohorts joined our members for a hybrid panel discussion about their service terms and how each year helped them get to where they are today! 🚀
On the last day, members and staff visited San Francisco’s City Hall to recite their Oaths, dedicating the next 46 weeks to completing 1700 hours of service to the San Francisco Community. With 4 weeks under their belts, we are more than confident that our members are well on their way to complete their goals! 🏃♀️
___________
We want to extend our gratitude to the alumni who joined us on August 30th, Brianna (’20-’21), Will (’21-’22), Mindy (’21-’22), Johnny (’21-’22), Saadhana (’21-’22, ’22-’23), Joelle (’22-’23), Andrew (’22-’23), and Vivian (’22-’23) for sharing your stories with our ’24-’25 Cohort, and we thank our newest members for dedicating nearly one year of their lives to a community we love dearly! 🌉
