Paul Wells here, D10 Rep on the BAC. Went to the beach via Sloat at the end of The Dunes today. Road Valencia St bike lanes from Chavez to 14th and back last weekend. Felt safer on the protected parts. On that ride, I aggravated an old injury, so today it was walking on the beach down to the surf and back.
Some observations.
1. The skateboard installation is nice, but a skateboarder lost control over the low wall and it almost hit a kid in the head.
2. The shared use lanes are the old Northbound lanes of the Great Highway. The sign on the southbound lanes designating it for pedestrians only is missing.
3. The facility for washing one’s feet South of the restrooms is broken and rusted. Used to be a full concrete circle to do so, now neglected.
4. Due to the lack of the feet washing area, the water fountain is filled with sand from it being used to wash off feet, flip-flops, etc. I would drink from it. Yuk!

What makes Cycle to Zero different from AIDS/LifeCycle?
San Francisco AIDS Foundation is honored to carry forward the impactful, three-decade legacy of AIDS/LifeCycle. In 1994 when 500 riders and volunteers completed the first journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles – then called “California AIDS Ride” – the idea was simple but powerful: cover hundreds of miles on a bicycle to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS services, while embodying community resilience at a time when stigma and fear were rampant. AIDS/LifeCycle raised over $330 million dollars and affected the lives of over 500,000 cyclists, roadies, staff, donors, and the greater communities of San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. While ALC’s journey has officially crossed its finish line, SFAF is beginning a new adventure. We ask ALC veterans – and new cyclists alike – to trust us, and come prepared with your joy and commitment for an entirely new experience!
SFAF envisions a future of Zero New HIV Diagnoses. Zero Stigma. Zero Inequity. Zero Overdose.
Cycle or Crew with us for a better future. May 29—31, 2026. SF TO Guerneville and back.

Informative. No meeting after Memorial Day. Discussion in April will be continued in June.
The decision follows a series of fatal accidents involving teenagers and a growing legal push by local officials to hold parents criminally responsible for providing illegal electric motorcycles to minors. MORE ⬇️

On December 15, 2025 Mayor Daniel Lurie launched a citywide effort to improve public safety, unveiling and signing his Street Safety executive directive. The directive marks a new chapter in how San Francisco approaches street safety—bringing together transportation, public safety, and public health agencies under a coordinated, mayor-led strategy that will ensure every San Franciscan, no matter their age, ability, or mode of transportation, will be able to travel throughout San Francisco safely. The plan will coordinate multiple city departments that are involved in overseeing our roadways and transportation systems.

S.F. rolls out updated redesign for Embarcadero Plaza, with bigger park vision

An updated design for the remake of Embarcadero Plaza into a vibrant and cohesive city park premiered Tuesday evening at a community meeting hosted by San Francisco parks officials.
The meeting took place at Embarcadero Center adjacent to the brick plaza where the 710-ton Vaillancourt Fountain is being prepared for disassembly even as a lawsuit seeks to keep it in place.
The new park design centers around an oval main lawn that will cover more than an acre, surrounded by a wide walking path that will feature a performance space and outdoor dining area. Off to the side are a new dog play area and fitness center, as well as an existing playground.
The new plan is the result of input gathered from two previous planning meetings, which generated nearly 2,000 written responses. It does not include the popular padel courts currently on site. It also does not include the Vaillancourt Fountain, which has never been a part of the redesign, or the concrete ledges around it that have been magnets for skateboarders.
