As we prepare to welcome a new year, there’s one final opportunity to make a meaningful difference before 2025 comes to a close. Tonight is the last day to make a tax-deductible charitable gift for the 2025 tax year.

Moments like the one below—where service members stand in solemn salute—reflect why the mission of Marines’ Memorial Association & Foundation must continue strong into the year ahead: honoring the legacy of those who served, supporting our members, and preserving the stories that define our nation’s history.

A gift made by 11:59 p.m. on December 31 not only advances this vital work but may also qualify as a charitable deduction on your 2025 taxes. As the clock counts down to midnight, we invite you to make your year-end gift and start the new year knowing you made a lasting impact.

On this Veterans Day we write to you with deep gratitude, profound respect, and heartfelt appreciation for the sacrifices you have made in service to our country. Your courage in the face of danger, your unwavering commitment to duty, and your willingness to put others before yourselves are the very foundation of the freedoms we enjoy every day. Whether you served in times of war or peace, your dedication has shaped the soul of our nation.

We recognize that the cost of service is not always visible. The memories you carry, the time spent away from loved ones, and the challenges you may continue to face are not forgotten. Today we honor not only your service, but your strength, resilience, and humanity.

As a nation, we owe you more than words can express. But today, we pause to say: thank you. Thank you for your bravery, your integrity, and your enduring spirit. May we strive every day to be worthy of the freedoms you have protected.

For two and a half centuries the Marine Corps has stood as a symbol of courage, honor, and relentless commitment to defending our nation. From the battles of the Revolutionary War to the modern-day missions across the globe, Marines have consistently demonstrated what it means to serve with valor and an unbreakable spirit.

This milestone is not just a celebration of history, it is a tribute to the legacy forged by generations of warriors who answered the call with grit and determination. It is a moment to honor the sacrifices made, the lives changed, and the enduring brotherhood that defines the Corps.

To every Marine who has worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor: you have earned the respect of a grateful nation. Your service has shaped the course of history and safeguarded the freedoms we hold dear. Your example continues to inspire future generations to lead, fight, and uphold the values of Semper Fidelis.

Happy 250th Birthday, Marines. May your legacy continue to thrive, your traditions endure, and your spirit remain forever fierce.

We were honored to have 100 years young Sgt. Frank S. Wright, USMC (Ret), a World War II and Iwo Jima veteran at Marines' Memorial this month.

He was promoted to sergeant (honorary) in Stockton, California, Aug. 31, 2025. Wright enlisted on Jan. 21, 1942, at just 16 years old by using his older brother’s birthdate. He joined the 4th Marine Raiders and later fought in the battles of New Georgia, Guam, and Iwo Jima, where he was wounded and subsequently medically evacuated. After the war, he served as a drill instructor before being honorably discharged in January 1946.

Today we salute our brothers and sisters in the United States Navy as they celebrate 250 years of distinguished service to our nation.

Since 1775, America’s Sailors have stood the watch — from the earliest frigates that carried freedom across the seas to today’s aircraft carriers and submarines that safeguard our way of life. The Navy’s steadfast presence has allowed the Marine Corps to carry out our missions around the world — together, we are an unbreakable team forged in service and sacrifice.

Today, we pause to remember the morning of September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation.

For many of us, the images of that day are etched permanently into our hearts: the smoke rising from the towers, the bravery of first responders charging toward danger, and the grief of families whose lives were torn apart in an instant.

As Marines, veterans, and citizens, we honor the nearly 3,000 souls lost that day. We remember not only the victims, but also the countless acts of courage and compassion that emerged from the darkness—ordinary Americans who became extraordinary in their service to others.

For those of us who wore the uniform, 9/11 was more than an attack on our homeland. It was a call to duty. A new generation stepped forward, volunteering to defend our freedoms, knowing the risks, and embracing the responsibility to serve. Many of them never came home. We owe them, and their families, a debt that can never be fully repaid.

On this solemn anniversary, let us reaffirm our commitment to the values that unite us as Americans—courage, honor, and selfless service. Let us carry forward the memory of those we lost, not only in words, but in how we live our lives each day.

May God bless the fallen, their families, and all who continue to serve. And may we, as a nation, never forget.

Today is Purple Heart Day. On this solemn day, we pay tribute to America’s military heroes who were wounded or sacrificed their lives in combat. We will never forget.
