Fri 6/5 from 7:30pm to 8:30pm
RSVP: https://han.sfaf.org/a/candlelight-vigil

As part of Seven Day in June: Health is Primary, we’re participating in a candlelight vigil to lift up the concerns related to HIV, LGBTQ+, and public health funding cuts that will affect all in our communities in the coming years. Join us as we recognize the leadership that San Francisco has played in building up successful models of HIV prevention and care, call to protect the legacy of these investments, honor the memory of those we have lost to HIV and AIDS, and celebrate the many long-term HIV survivors and other leaders that push our movement forward.

Changes to Medicaid made in HR 1 could mean 10 million people will lose their benefits by 2034. HR 1 also cuts more than $900 billion in Medicaid funding over 10 years. In San Francisco, these Federal-level Medicaid cuts will reduce health coverage for many San Franciscans. It’s estimated that between 25,000 and 50,000 San Franciscans will lose Medi-Cal coverage, representing a decrease of 12%-23% of all enrollees.

-The biggest loss of Medicaid coverage will come from new work requirements, even though most people with Medicaid who can work already do so.

-For folks who cannot work, even the smallest error on the paperwork to get an exemption could mean they will lose their benefits.

-Medicaid is the primary insurer for people living with HIV. Losing Medicaid benefits could mean thousands will lose access to life-saving medications.

Now is the time to speak up against the new work requirements!
