Our ReWild volunteers do health checks on foster opossums when the opossums are asleep. When they are awake, they are less than cooperative for health checks, showing all the proper behaviors of a wild opossum. These guys will be ready for release soon!

Here's a story. These 7-week old baby raccoons were found abandoned in a filthy box on the sidewalk over the weekend. We can only guess at what happened. Perhaps someone discovered a raccoon nest in or on their property and decided to evict them like this.

Luckily, a kind neighbor discovered the box and messaged our wildlife hotline [(510) 421 9897]. We sheltered the babies overnight and then one of our amazing transport volunteers was able to take them for rehabilitation over to Lindsay Wildlife Experience.

The moral of the story: we all share this beautiful world with one another. If raccoons have moved in and you aren't happy about it, exclusion and reunification are the best and most humane options. Raccoons are amazing mothers and they usually have several backup nesting spots for their babies. When given the opportunity, they will move the little family to a backup location. So if you find yourself in a situation like this, please, please call animal control, a wildlife rehabilitator, or a reputable exclusionist for guidance.

Eating a balanced diet is very important for our squirrel patients in recovery. We are 💯 volunteer-run and so grateful to our onsite volunteers who feed our patients and clean their cages daily.
