Today, he's been married for 10 years, has 2 kids, and a dog (Luna!). As an engineer, Michael has dedicated his life to solving problems. Rather than only addressing a problem’s symptoms, he tries to understand the cause in order to fix it. He will bring an engineering mentality to Congress - one that is not afraid to tackle the hard and politically uncomfortable problems. He will start addressing the big problems like reducing the threat of wildfires, increasing access to affordable healthcare, investing in education for kids and young adults that prepares them for meaningful careers, and ensuring everyone has an opportunity to find a job that pays a living wage. Michael’s values are rooted in Amador County and the relationships he’s made over the years. He believes in the value of human life and all of the differences that it takes on. Growing up in small town Amador County, he learned the importance of serving your community and looking out for your neighbors. He grew up clearing fallen trees and burning brush every summer; digging trenches and hauling firewood; volunteering to serve at the church’s annual crab feed fundraiser; and walking around Sutter Creek with his friends after school. His parents instilled in him the importance of hard work and dedication throughout his youth, lessons that he carries forward to this day. Brittany has taught him the strength that comes with empathy, understanding, and humility. His kids have taught him the importance of patience under stress. Finally, his time in Washington, DC has given him a greater appreciation for the diversity that this country has to offer, and the realization that we have more in common than we might think.

Every year, we send our tax dollars to Washington. We deserve to see some of that invested in our communities.

As your representative, I’ll hire a 'grant jockey' to assist local leaders who are navigating federal grants and competing for funding to improve roads, water systems, and wildfire protection. McClintock has called grants “the roots of all fiscal evil.”

I see an opportunity to deliver real results.

During the first Trump Administration, the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services launched a program offering insulin copays of no more than $35 a month for some Medicare drug plans. The Biden Administration later expanded the program and capped Medicare patients’ insulin costs at $35 a month across Part D plans and negotiated Medicare prices for 10 more drugs.

I want to see this approach expanded to Medicaid and applied across the pharmaceutical market. For too long, American consumers have been price gouged by the big pharmaceutical companies while the rest of the world gets a better deal.

By doubling-down on this approach, we can bring down the tax burden of these programs and make medications more affordable for regular people. That's a win-win.

Tom McClintock has represented the gateway communities of Yosemite for 13 years. Over those years, they have faced continuous issues from park policies and have not been treated as meaningful stakeholders when decisions are made.

Tom even acknowledged the issue recently when speaking about our gateway communities, "one of the frustrations they have expressed is that they feel ignored and excluded from decisions that directly affect the Park, its visitors, local communities and economy.”

Why did it take 13 years to do something about it?

I want to be clear: I am supportive of the Strengthening Coordination with Gateway Communities Act. What I cannot fathom, however, is that it took so long for our Representative to recognize and take steps to address the problem.

In Congress, I will remain accessible and responsive to the challenges our communities are facing. Unlike Tom, who has spent over 40 years in politics, I am committed to solving problems regardless of where the solutions may come from.
