Yesterday, Friday December 19, 2025, Groceries for Seniors took time to honor our consistent volunteers with the annual Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Lunch. Folks who join us weekly helped transform the basement auditorium at Old Saint Mary's Cathedral into a holiday gathering spot. Serving as our centerpiece was the hat of our founder, John Meehan, who we always take a moment to thank as we know he watches over us. His inspiration keeps us 26 years strong. Our favorite dessert, the Coffee Crunch Cake from Eastern Bakery was so popular I almost didn't get a shot of its seasonal message. This year's volunteer gift was an insulated backpack which got rave reviews from our recipients. Each week this group of people helps us assemble and deliver over 1100 free grocery bags to low-income seniors in San Francisco, and we're so grateful for their dedication. Happy holidays to all of you who encourage us by commenting on our posts and supporting our mission, and we wish you a very prosperous 2026.

We had a return visit from one of our favorite groups this morning, a team of volunteers comprised of folks from Cushman & Wakefield, along with people from Grosvenor Properties. Even cooler, they brought jars of locally sourced Honey which was harvested from narby roof top hives at a commercial property (394 Pacific Ave in San Francisco) by Best Bee's Honey. These jars were added as part of the grocery mix that filled up over 330 bags of food for low-income seniors in San Francisco. A huge thanks to (from Cushman & Wakefield) James Way, David Murillo (who also coordinated this visit), (from Grosvenor) Mark Purdy, Millie Moran, Julie Hashberger, Eric Nogueiro, and Emily Weiss. A terrific, hardworking team who are already talking about a return visit in 2026. Fantastic!
