The Richmond District Democratic Club calls on Nancy Tung to immediately resign as chair of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee, popularly known as the SFDCCC.

As the national Democratic Party reckons with how best to serve the needs of working families, the San Francisco Democratic Party has found itself mired in scandals of its own making.

Chair Tung attempted to table a resolution restricting the use of Flock after she received a $10,000 donation from tech billionaire Chris Larsen, a longtime booster of online surveillance. The decision can be viewed as nothing less than quid pro quo for a wealthy donor. Under Chair Tung's direction, the SFDCCC rewrote its bylaws so that it could break from the California Democratic Party' and its endorsement of the first-ever tax on the state’s billionaires, one that would rescue the public healthcare system placing countless state residents at risk.

Chair Tung’s active role in promoting Manny Yekutiel, the onetime District 8 supervisorial candidate after he was credibly accused of sexual assault and under police investigation — and while she served as chief of the Vulnerable Victims Unit and Community Partnerships in the San Francisco District Attorney's Office — demonstrate a profound lack of judgment.

In total, Chair Tung’s actions betray a pattern of disregard for Democratic Party values that have made the SFDCCC an embarrassment locally, statewide and nationally. Her resignation would represent an important first step toward restoring the deeply tarnished reputation of the San Francisco Democratic Party. We call on SFDCCC Chair Nancy Tung to step down immediately.

“For groups that want fair citywide turnout, like Prop. D, make sure you are investing heavily in the Richmond,” said Brian Kragh, the president of the district’s Democratic club. The demographics and geography of the Richmond — some hills, some business corridors; some moderates, some progressives — are reflective of the city as a whole, he said.

Votes in the Richmond for and against Prop. D were nearly identical to the citywide results after the first drop: about 43 percent for and 57 percent against. This, Kragh said, is a common trend.

San Francisco is voting for two city supervisors, several ballot measures, and who will replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress. Follow along.

The Richmond District Democratic Club will be hosting a town hall with Mayor Daniel Lurie concerning the Family Zoning Plan on Thursday, November 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the Internet Archive building (300 Funston Avenue). There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask Mayor Lurie questions on the upzoning proposal. We hope to see you there!
