Due to falling rocks and continued rain in the forecast, Park Rangers have temporarily closed Alum Rock Park to vehicle traffic for safety.
Local access remains open for neighbors.
We’ll continue to monitor conditions and will share updates as soon as vehicle access can safely reopen.

Mountain lions are active in Alum Rock Park. Please stay on marked trails and follow posted signage.
Mountain lions are a protected species and an important part of our ecosystem. While seeing one can be exciting, always observe from a distance and never approach wildlife.

While Alum Rock Park is still closed today and tomorrow, San José Park Rangers are busy helping it recover from last week's fire.
They’re placing wattles to prevent erosion, restoring vegetation, and preparing trails for the rainy season - all while monitoring local wildlife. In the last photo, you'll see fresh plant growth emerging 🌱

UPDATE: Alum Rock Park Remains Closed
Due to the recent 10-acre wildfire, Alum Rock Park will stay closed until Nov. 1, 2025, to ensure public safety and support environmental recovery.
Thank you for your patience as we work to restore the park safely and responsibly. We’ll review conditions and share any changes to the reopening date.

Alum Rock Park will be CLOSED early today, October 23, due to fire activity in the area. Please stay clear of the park until further notice.

🚧 Trail Work Alert! 🚧
Starting the week of September 15, 2025, crews will be working on trail improvements throughout the park.
First up: the Sycamore Switchback and the Penitencia Creek Trail between the Main Entrance (Marker 1) and Eagle Rock Parking Lot (Marker 2).
Some trails will be temporarily closed while work is underway. Please follow all posted signage so we can make the park safer and better for everyone. ✨

Heads up! 🌳
Alum Rock Avenue (service road) in Alum Rock Park will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 14 for tree maintenance to raise branches for emergency vehicle clearance.
Please stay on marked trails and follow posted signage.

Based on the current fire weather readings, Alum Rock Park will be under restricted use on Saturday, July 12.
During restricted use, the park is open to the public but open flames, BBQ’s, fires of any type, and smoking are prohibited.
