Alum Rock Jazz

Hey guys…

I am a former ARJB member circa 2001-2003 and a member of the Alum Rock Jazz Band Foundation.

Mr. Spacek has let the foundation know that our great founder and mentor, Mr. Nicolosi, has passed away.

A few days ago he suffered a stroke and they discovered a neck aneurysm. He took his last breath at 2 pm today.

Mr. Spacek will be informing the foundation of future celebration of life and will update you all.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

Thank you, Mr. Nicolosi for believing in me and giving me a chance at music. Because of you and other music teachers, I am now a band teacher at ARUSD. May your legacy live on forever. You will never be forgotten.

The Jazz Band played at Adelante on Thursday and really brought down the house! Thank you, Adelante, for having us! Also, thank you to Adelante Band Director Angel Ortega playing playing with us on Children of Sanchez!

This week, Jazz Band alum Joe DeRose came by jazz band rehearsal and spent some time talking about his experience with the jazz band and playing professionally. He also presented the band with an award of his time with the band. Joe has created a foundation in memory of his mentor and private drum teacher Karl Carter. Another Friday another performance by the Jazz Band! This time they played at William Sheppard Middle School. Shout out to Lori Lozano for sitting in on bass! Shout out to Mimi Paulson for taking the photos!

On Friday, the Jazz Band played at Joseph George Middle School. Thank you for being a great audience! The Jazz Band was joined on stage by George VAPA music teachers who played with us! Thank you Mr. Vega, Ms. Ordaz, and Ms. Talton! You did a wonderful job and we were all very impressed!

The Jazz Band played a great concert at San Antonio Elementary School today for San Antonio and LUCHA Elementary School students. Thank you for having us!

The Alum Rock Jazz Band was acknowledged by the Alum Rock School District at Thursday’s Board Meeting for Fifty Years of music in Alum Rock. Congratulations, Jazz Band!
