It was my extreme privilege and honor to MC the celebration event for the inaugural ride on the new all electric Caltrain equipment today. It was great to see so many neighbors out tonight enjoying the warm evening during all the National Night Out events in district 6! Thanks to all the organizers of these gatherings. They understand the importance of knowing your community!

I'm so disgusted that this happened and very grateful for the SJPD officers who put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe and help us in an emergency.

Yesterday, around 6:55 PM, dispatch received multiple reports of sideshow activity throughout the city. One of those sideshow events occurred in a populated area of west San Jose, where a spectator was struck by a reckless sideshow vehicle. A reserve officer working in the area was flagged down about the injured person and responded to assist, when his patrol car was overrun by spectators who prevented him from providing aid to the injured spectator.

The patrol vehicle was severely damaged and the officer sustained minor injuries. The unruly crowd dispersed prior to additional units arriving in the area.

This conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our city. Detectives and Crime Analysts from our Real Time Intelligence Center are actively following up to identify all those responsible.

To see one of our officers attacked by an out of control mob while in the process of trying to help a seriously injured person is truly deplorable!

Know that we will expend every effort to identify and apprehend all involved. I will also personally work with the District Attorney to ensure that, once arrested, these suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows.
