An envelope containing a suspicious white powder was delivered to my Santa Cruz district office and opened by staff this morning as part of her normal daily morning routine responding to constituents. Upon realizing that there was powder in the envelope, she immediately put the envelope in the garbage can, cleared fellow staff members out of the office, and called 911.

My priority is the safety and security of my staff and, thankfully, she and the other staff have been initially cleared by medical officials.

I’m grateful to local law enforcement and first responders for their swift response.

Threats, fearmongering, and violence against public servants have become far too common over the past decade and undermine our democracy.

But these attempts to intimidate us will not deter us from doing our job. Despite these difficult circumstances, we remain committed to our democracy by continuing our service to the people of California’s 19th Congressional District.

Great to join local early-childhood educators at Cabrillo College Children’s Center & Lab School to celebrate my bipartisan SEED Act being signed into law. Pre-K teachers often dip into their own pockets to purchase classroom supplies, yet until now they were denied the same federal tax deduction available to K-12 teachers. My commonsense law closes that gap by expanding the $350 educator expense deduction to include early childhood educators.

Terrible to hear about the attempted mass shooting at the Hindu temple where Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and his family were worshipping. We must work hard to stop that type of abhorrent and violent hate and stem the rising threats against Indian American and Hindu communities. I’m grateful to the coworkers who alerted authorities and the law enforcement officers who acted accordingly to stop the violence, keep people safe, and secure the place of worship.

My family and I were worshipping at our Hindu temple in Aurora on Sunday when a white supremacist attempted a mass shooting targeting Indian Americans. I'm grateful to those who helped prevent a tragedy, but we must come together to confront the hatred that put so many innocent lives at risk.

Grateful to local healthcare leaders for discussing the challenges CA-19 seniors face accessing care through Medicare. With open enrollment beginning today, October 15, I’m committed to strengthening Medicare so seniors who worked hard and paid into the program can get access to reliable healthcare.

Inflation reached 3.7% in September, as we pay more for fuel, food, and fertilizer than we did a year ago. This Administration’s Iran war and trade wars are only raising costs further. Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority by passing the BAD DEAL Act to rein in these harmful tariffs and passing further war powers resolutions to end this war of choice with Iran.

The hotter reading is a sign that high energy prices are tightening their squeeze on consumers ahead of next month’s midterm elections.

The Pentagon once again revised the death toll from the War in Iran, acknowledging 21 deaths. Our fallen service members and their families deserve better. That’s why I co-lead bipartisan legislation to require transparent and accurate military casualty reporting and ensure every fallen service member receives the deserved honor and recognition.

The Post exclusively reported last month that the number of service members lost was greater than what the Pentagon was reporting in its public database.
