Grateful to Trustee Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto and Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga for hosting this important public demonstration of leadership. As school trustees and educators, we stand with our immigrant families and are committed to doing everything possible to protect them — to protect our communities, our neighbors, and families like my own — and to ensure that those who rely on public institutions know we have their backs.

Six years ago, at 29, I was elected to the board of the California Latino School Boards Association (CLSBA). A year later, I had the honor of being elected President—and after five incredible years of service, it’s time to pass the torch and turn a new chapter for CLSBA 🔥

In that time, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside inspiring leaders to build a true statewide home for those committed to creating the best opportunities for Latino students—and ALL students. Together, we advanced policy, strengthened partnerships, and modeled UNITY—building a statewide familia along the way.

Co-leading with such a dedicated team has been the honor of a lifetime. CLSBA has become my home—and the home of so many others who believe in the power of public education and the potential of our most underestimated kids, an experience I personally know all too well.

As my term as President comes to an end on December 31, I’m filled with deep gratitude and pride knowing my final Unity Conference as President was our best one yet—and even more excitement for what’s ahead. CLSBA’s next chapter will be extraordinary. On January 1, a new era with new leaders begins 🤎🙌🏽✊🏽

Santa Clara Education Official on How Schools Are Preparing for the Fall Semester Amid ICE Raids - KQED 08/12/2025

🚨Thank you, KQED/NPR, for the opportunity to share our story and spotlight the work we at the Santa Clara County Office of Education — alongside our local school districts — are doing to protect every child and family in this climate of fear.

Over 60% of Santa Clara County’s residents are immigrant families — the highest in California. Right now, fear is keeping too many students out of school, with absences up 30%. Every missed day is a lost opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. This crisis affects all of us — our children, our communities, and our future.

We must stand together to make our schools safe havens where every student feels welcome, protected, and ready to learn. Let’s keep fighting for the safe, inclusive schools our students deserve.

Santa Clara Education Official on How Schools Are Preparing for the Fall Semester Amid ICE Raids - KQED This week is back to school for parts of the Bay Area, and districts are on high alert for immigration enforcement. The Trump administration’s policies have created a climate of fear among immigrant families, with some choosing to avoid sending their kids to school. Jorge Pacheco Junior joins us t...

Testified at the California State Legislature in support of AB 49 — a critical step to protect our immigrant students and their families. Thanks to Assemblymember Muratsuchi’s leadership, the bill passed committee 💪🏽 and is now one step closer to the governor’s desk.

As a Santa Clara County Office of Education Trustee, I will continue to unapologetically fight for our immigrant communities — like my own family — until every family feels safe, seen, and empowered to access their right to a public education 🤎✊🏽here is a clip of my testimony.

This is not just about immigration enforcement - it’s about fear in the classroom and disruption in a child’s life. Our schools must be sanctuaries of safety and dignity, not silent bystanders. This is our Board of Director’s statement regarding the deplorable actions ICE is taking against our immigrant communities in Los Angeles County. As a child of Salvadoran, Maya, and Korean immigrants, I say we must stand with our immigrant communities and against their criminalization. Unity is our collective strength, now more than ever ✊🏽🤎

Unity is our collective strength in action. Together, we are one.

Thank you Univision 14 for interviewing me to talk about the negative impact this administration is having on our immigrant families and their students, and what we at the Santa Clara County Office of Education are doing to protect them. As a child of immigrants myself, we must make sure that they are safe in our schools statewide! ✊🏽🤎 See the full interview here: https://www.youtube.com/live/U08-ZrYhKFs

Voting to appoint a county superintendent is a privilege only 5 counties of California’s 58 have, making it the most important vote I’ve ever taken as a school board member. Proud to have made that vote to appoint the incredible and talented Dr. David M. Toston, Sr. as our next Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools. Welcome to the team and to the Santa Clara County Office of Education and to Santa Clara County, my lifelong home and that of our 240,000+ students!

Full circle moment 🫶🏽 As a kid, my teachers took me to The Tech Interactive for field trips. Then as a teacher, I took my students there for field trips. Now as a school board member, I gave a speech at The Tech for National AI Literacy Day, sharing my story on how I started to learn about AI, expanding it into classrooms and organizations, and stressing the importance of integrating AI into public education.

The Tech, thank you for hosting this illuminating event in the heart of Silicon Valley. Happy National 🤎
