Leadership San Jose January program day was all about Arts and Culture and SJ has some AMAZING cultural institutions! Our day started at the California Theater with meeting the class, then Director Shawn Lucey shared the history of the theater and the opera along with a backstage tour. After .sanjose Director Dalia Rawson introduced us to some of her dancers and new piece they have been working on. Then we were on to Break Room for an outstanding discussion with leaders from Lunch at and a tour of MACLA finishing with a performance from Thank you so much to all who participated. Now, get out and see a show, visit a gallery, participate in a festival!!

Today's Leasership San Jose day was at San Jose City Hall. We were welcomed by Councilmember Michael Mulcahy (who's Chief of staff is an LSJ alum!), learned about the history of San Jose politics from the Honorable Ken Yeager, had Assistant City Manager and COO Lee Wilcox provide a City 101 overview, then learned about budgeting and did a budget exercise with Budget Director Jim Shannon.

After lunch, catered by Happy Hollow Park & Zoo's DoubleH catering, we heard about a day if the life of a Councilmember from Vice Mayor Pam Foley (whose Chief of Staff Scott W. Hughes is also an LSJ alum!). After we toured Council Chambers and the Rotunda. Then finished off the day with Tommy OHare who is leading sports and special events in San Jose in 2026 when the Super Bowl, March Madness, and World Cup all come to town!

It was an educational, enlightening, challenging but inspiring day. And this year's class asks the BEST questions. BCE 2026!!
