Hold on to your ghosts, SanMarcos!

The US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas has issued a wind advisory from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday October 16.

Now’s the time to secure anything that could blow away. We’re talking patio furniture, trash cans, inflatables, and those spooky Halloween decorations!

Let’s keep the pumpkins on the porch and not halfway down the street. 😅

The City dedicated three cultural heritage signs recognizing the Mexican American and Indigenous communities whose roots run deep in our city, including the historic neighborhoods of East Guadalupe, El Barrio de la Victoria, now known as Victory Gardens, and El Barrio del Pescado, now known as Wallace Addition.

These signs are more than markers. They help preserve the stories of generations of families and recognize the lasting contributions these communities have made to San Marcos.

Thank you to the community members and partners who helped bring this effort to life. Preserving our history helps us better understand who we are and where we come from.

Every neighborhood has a story. Tomorrow, we celebrate some of ours.

For generations, Mexican American and Indigenous families have helped shape the neighborhoods, traditions and history of San Marcos.

This Saturday, Oct. 10, we're celebrating that legacy with the dedication of cultural heritage signs recognizing some of our city's earliest neighborhoods: East Guadalupe, El Barrio de la Victoria (Victory Gardens) and El Barrio del Pescado (Wallace Addition).

Everyone is invited to join us at any of three stops throughout the morning:

9:30 a.m. | Swift Memorial Park
10:30 a.m. | Victory Gardens Park
11:30 a.m. | Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos

Come celebrate the people, places and stories that make San Marcos home.

👇 Learn more about the history behind the signs in the News Hub article linked in the comments.

San Marcos is now home to the second largest municipally run EMS system in Texas!

Today, we cut the...gauze...on a new chapter in public safety.

San Marcos EMS officially began service this morning at 12:01 a.m. as the City’s third emergency service, alongside the San Marcos Police Department and San Marcos Fire Department, with many of the same paramedics, EMTs and familiar faces who have already been serving our community.

This milestone builds on more than four decades of emergency medical service in our community. We’re grateful to the professionals of San Marcos-Hays County EMS who built that foundation and to the members of San Marcos EMS who are carrying it forward.

Throughout this transition, our focus has remained on continuity of care. Residents can continue to count on trained medical professionals, strong clinical standards and a reliable response when they call 911.

We’re proud to welcome San Marcos EMS to the City team and celebrate these incredible people who serve our community when it matters most.
