🐾K9 Gunner | End of Watch: January 23, 2026🐾

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of K9 Gunner, devoted partner to Officer J. Stearns.
Throughout his distinguished career, K9 Gunner played a critical role in numerous arrests, criminal apprehensions, and narcotics seizures. His loyalty, courage, and steadfast dedication to duty left a lasting impact on our agency and the community he served with honor.

K9 Gunner was more than a working dog—he was a trusted partner and a member of our Port Police family. His legacy will live on through the lives he protected, the officers he helped safeguard, and the unbreakable bond he shared with his handler.

We ask that you keep Officer Stearns and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time as we honor K9 Gunner’s service and sacrifice.

Rest easy, K9 Gunner. Thank you for your faithful service.

Please join us in welcoming and congratulating our two newest officers, Edwards and Tovar. They both did very well in the academy. Edwards was class president and Tovar was in the color guard. Both of their fathers are in law enforcement and had the honor of pinning badges on their sons for the first time. Edwards’ father is the most senior sergeant in the Port Police and currently supervises our Dive Unit. Welcome to the family guys!

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we wanted to highlight one of our own.

In February 2024, Detective Ixta was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

Detective Ixta has been with the Los Angeles Port Police for 12 years and has served in various capacities such as a field training officer, drill instructor, and most recently as a detective.

Fortunately, Detective Ixta is now in remission and has returned back to work after a long battle through chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries.

Her resilience, strength, and courage has proven to be a beacon of light for those who may be battling the same fight.
