Another reminder to Lock It, Hide It, Keep It. Fifty percent of all thefts from vehicles last year were from unlocked cars. Time and time again we have witnesses report seeing thieves walking along the sidewalk, and checking doors on parked cars as they pass by. If the car is locked, they move on. If its unlocked, they enter it and take anything they want. Recently we had a case here in Harbor Division where the suspect was actually driving slowly down a residential street, reaching his hand out the drivers window and "door checking" parked cars as he drove past them. If he found one that was unlocked, he would stop his car, and enter the unlocked one and steal everything he could. Please lock your car, it DOES help.

Harbor Burglary Detectives released this Community Alert back in April, after he was positively identified due to countless tips from citizens. His door-knock scam appeared to stop for awhile, but it has started again. We are getting numerous tips and pictures of this person, knocking on their door in the middle of the night, claiming to be someone he isn't, asking for money. Previously he called himself "Mike" or "John". Now he is referring to himself as "Frank". Theft By False Pretenses is a crime in California, however for the courts to consider filing charges, the victim has to actually give the suspect money (and anything under $950 is a misdemeanor). This Community Alert is to let people know to be aware of scams if this person comes knocking. You may email tips to Harbor Burglary Detectives at [email protected].
