Things to Know Thursdays - Be Rain Ready!

We are entering what's predicted to be a very rainy season and the winter storms are coming, so stay ahead of them with Rain Ready Solutions!
- Pick up pet waste daily.
- Pick up leaf litter and yard clippings around your home.
- Securely cover all stockpiles, excavated bare soils, garden products, gas-powered garden equipment, or chemicals stored outside.
- Minimize use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Avoid application if rain or high wind is forecasted.
- Turn down irrigation system run times during dry fall months and turn off once the rains begin.
- Repair vehicle and equipment leaks.
- Use a commercial car wash, which recycles water and keeps soap out of the storm drain.
- Clean your pickup truck bed and secure any items transported in bed of truck.
- Routinely sweep up the street gutter in front of your residence.
- Dispose of motor oil, antifreeze, paint, paint thinner, batteries, chemical cleaning products, and other hazardous materials at the Household Toxics Facility.

Pest Control Tips - Poison Hurts More Than Rats

The word "bait" may sound harmless enough, but these products are poisonous. Baits are often made with tasty items like peanut butter, molasses, or grains to tempt rodents - but they may also attract pets and kids. Wildlife (like owls and hawks) that consume poisoned rodents can perish as well.

Also, the poison doesn't kill immediately. Rodents often retreat behind walls before they die - and you'll be wondering where that awful smell is coming from! We're keeping our EPIC Litter Reduction Campaign rolling with another Team Up to Clean Up Event this Saturday!

We'll be meeting at Bahia Vista Elementary School at 125 Bahia Way in San Rafael at 9:30am. We'll be teaming up with Raices del Canal, and Clean Marin to clean up around the school, Pickleweed Park, and the surrounding neighborhood, and we hope to see you there!
