Since 2001, the County of Marin Sustainability Team has been working to support healthy, safe and sustainable communities while preserving Marin’s unique environmental heritage. Now the Climate and Sustainability Division, our staff leads a countywide effort to accelerate climate action, coordinate adaptation planning, and embed sustainability principles across all County of Marin operations and in the community in partnership with Marin cities, towns, and public agencies. Within the Division, the Sustainability Team leads Marin’s comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction work, including promoting renewable energy and electrification in coordination with local utilities and implementers; encouraging green building and businesses; reducing emissions from transportation; and improving energy efficiency of residences, businesses, and public facilities across the County. The Division also oversees the County’s sea level rise (SLR) initiatives, including a governance and funding framework to strengthen coordination among jurisdictions and advance long-term resilience investments and actions. 📚 Marin Green Business Spotlight: The Phoenix Used Bookshop

We are excited to welcome the newest certified green business, The Phoenix Used Bookshop! Step into this small-but-mighty used bookshop The Phoenix Used Bookshop , and you’ll leave with not only a new-to-you children’s storybook but inspiration and hope for a more sustainable future.

With reuse built into the business, The Phoenix Used Bookshop was able to complete the Green Business certification on the spot. Every book on the shelves comes from the community, helping avoid the impacts of new book production, shipping, and excess inventory. In its first three months, The Phoenix diverted more than 15,000 books from Marin’s waste stream and put them back into the hands of local young readers! As a small store, efficiency is a built-in feature with little energy, water, and other resource use.

Visit The Phoenix Used Bookshop in Larkspur to support a newly certified Green Business connecting community, zero waste, and good books, and find other certified businesses at Search.GreenBusinessCA.org!
