Welcome to the Family, Josh!

The Wakefield Police Department would like to welcome our newest officer, Joshua McLain! Joshua was sworn in this morning, October 19, 2026, as a full-time patrol officer. Joshua comes to us with many years of experience in law enforcement. He began his career in 1997 at Marine Patrol and then went on to serve as a police officer for Epping and Deerfield. Joshua then served as a Juvenile Probation and Parole Officer for 23 years. Now Joshua will be attending the 207th New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy where he will receive his full-time police certification.

You may recognize the last name McLain, as Joshua's son Connor McLain has been an officer with Wakefield Police Department since 2022. We are excited to have Officer Joshua McLain serving our community, please join us in welcoming him to Wakefield!

We’ve preached this over and over… The support we get from our community is second to none. Yet again the members of the Greater Wakefield NH Lions Club have stepped up with another donation! They stopped by with 9 CO meters that the duty crew will be able to have on them when responding to any type of incident.

Thank you again to both Adam and Sharon, you guys are the best!

Sometimes you need to show the young kids the old stuff and when you have an inside connection to The Children’s Center in Wolfeboro you take advantage of the opportunity.

Thanks to Lt Mike Moore for taking sometime to show the truck off and go over some fire prevention.

For the month of September we handled 81 calls for service- 8 Fire, 12 Accidents, 8 Alarm Activations, 6 non-emergent service calls, and 47 medical emergencies.

Year to date we have handled 829 calls. That breaks down to an average of 92 calls a month and puts us on pace for 1,105 calls for the year.

It pays to know people with connections!

We would like to thank Scott Gaudet for getting two more members into this Propane course at the Mass fire academy. Scott is a resident, budget committee member, cemetery saver, and simply a guy who cares about his community!

Here is information from Scott:

I spent last week at the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow, MA, instructing the Propane Gas Association of New England’s (PGANE) emergency response training! 🚒🔥

Twice a year, we host a 3-day training and a 1-day refresher course on how to handle propane emergencies. Because Wakefield relies heavily on propane gas for both homes and businesses, keeping our local responders prepared for any scenario is a top priority.

For the 4th time, I was able to secure two full scholarships for our Wakefield, NH Firefighters, John Cunningham and Casey Couch to attend this training at no cost to the town! On top of that, a huge thank you to Eastern Propane and Oil for stepping up to cover all of their lodging and meals. 🤝🎓

This intensive 3-day course blends classroom instruction with high-intensity hands-on practice. The guys trained on every scenario imaginable—from residential and commercial setups to delivery vehicles, transport trucks, and even railcars.

Huge shoutout to the Wakefield firefighters for their dedication to learning and keeping our community safe!👏

A well deserved award for Officer Martino.

Officer Martino always puts in top tier effort on each and every call he assists us with.

Thank you for all of your help!

On Monday, K9 Officer Matthew Martino was presented with a Meritorious Conduct Award for his lifesaving efforts when he responded to a traumatic medical emergency in July. Officer Martino was first on scene and immediately began treating the patient. Officer Martino’s quick response, ability to stay calm, and apply multiple tourniquets ultimately saved the patient’s life. Officer Martino’s actions that day are best described as heroic, and we are proud to have him as a member of the Wakefield Police Department. Congratulations, Officer Martino!

Last night both Wakefield Police Department and Fire Departments got together and trained. It was a fantastic atmosphere having everyone together at once. Each side has always worked well together- better than most any police and fire departments you’ll ever come across. This training only helped the relationship.

The first hour of training was done in the classroom with staff from Huggins Hospital going over IEAs, refusal of care, transporting a patient in custody/ restrained, and the floor was open for any and all questions as well.

The second hour was spent outside going over some equipment. Why? Because our cops ALWAYS are there to help us. They offer manpower lifting, they run and get equipment, they get the stretcher ready, they get patient information, and honestly anything else we ask for- they just do it.

We thank both Chiefs for fostering this environment and allowing us to become a uniquely blended fire and police family.

Please avoid the 4-way intersection by the Poor People's Pub. Crews are on scene of a two car, t-bone style accident. Milton Fire-Rescue is responding mutual aid with an ambulance as well.
