Thank you, Bonner County! 🇺🇸💙

I am truly honored and humbled to be voted Favorite First Responder in the Best of Bonner County 2026.

As the Police Chief, I have the privilege of serving an incredible community, but this recognition isn’t about one person. It represents the dedication of the men and women of law enforcement who show up every day to protect and serve, often during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives.

To everyone who took the time to vote, support us, and place your trust in me and our department — thank you! Your support means more than you know.

I’m proud to call Bonner County home, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve this community.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you. It is truly an honor.

On behalf of the SPD family, we hope everyone has a fantastic time celebrating the 250th anniversary of our great nation this Independence Day!

As you enjoy time with family, friends, and neighbors, we ask one simple favor: help us keep it a boring night for our patrol officers by celebrating responsibly. Plan ahead, drive sober, watch out for one another, and make safety part of the celebration.

Have a fun, safe, and memorable Fourth of July. Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸

Grateful for officers who understand what it means to serve their community. Officer Oedewaldt was caught in the act of helping a motorist who may have been a little optimistic about how far that tank of gas would take them. These everyday acts of kindness and service don’t always make headlines, but they make a difference.

During Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, we pause to recognize and thank the men and women who serve in law enforcement across our community and our nation.

Every day, officers, dispatchers, detectives, correctional personnel, and support staff answer the call to serve others—often in difficult and demanding circumstances. Their commitment to protecting our communities, upholding the law, and helping those in need reflects professionalism, courage, and dedication that deserve our deepest respect.

I would like to thank all who wear the badge and the families who stand beside them in service and sacrifice. Your work does not go unnoticed, and your commitment to public service makes a lasting difference in the lives of countless people every day.

I also want to extend our sincere gratitude to our community for its continued support, partnership, and encouragement. The trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the community we serve are essential, and we are thankful for the many individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who stand alongside us in making our community a safer place for everyone.

We especially remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their service and legacy will never be forgotten.

Thank you for your service, your integrity, and your unwavering dedication to keeping our communities safe.

SCAM REMINDER:

A concerned citizen reported that today, several church members received text messages from someone claiming to be their Pastor. The messages addressed their members by name and requested gift cards, among other things. They have alerted their congregation, filed fraud reports with the FTC, and notified mobile carriers.

Here are a couple of tips:

1. Slow down - urgency to pay is a red flag.
2. Don't trust caller ID or email names they can easy be spoofed.
3. Never click links from unexpected messages.
4. Don't ever give out sensitive information.
5. Watch for payment tricks, asking for gift cards, crypto...

Everyone says that patrol officers are the backbone of a police department—and they truly are. However, the real unsung heroes are our administrative assistants. They answer calls, direct staff, keep everything organized, and help the rest of the department look more put together than we really are. The department cannot function without them.

Today, I would like to recognize our behind-the-scenes team that makes it all happen: Angela and Tania. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our community!

The Sandpoint Police Department would like to remind everyone that summer is approaching. With the warmer weather, there will be more people on the roadways and paths, including our two-wheeled riders. Remember that two-wheelers come in many shapes and sizes… and most importantly, let's all be courteous and share the roadway.
