She granted it and a short while later was out $1,000.

Officers responded to a reported break-in after a child entered the kitchen and found an unfamiliar man inside. The child screamed, and the man left the home. A short time later, dispatch received a request for assistance involving an individual experiencing age-related confusion. It was determined that man was the subject who had mistakenly entered that home, believing it belonged to a friend. They were transported to the hospital for evaluation. The original reporting party was relieved to learn that the uninvited guest had no nefarious intentions and that the incident was the result of a mistaken address.

OCTOBER 8

SEPTEMBER 27

A caller reported a boat had washed up on his private beach. Rumor has it the craft was on a 3 hour tour when the weather started getting rough that tiny ship was tossed on Springhill Beach. The Coast Guard was aware of the situation and had already notified the owner.

SEPTEMBER 28

Officers assisted an elderly woman who was experiencing a crisis. That subject was brought to the hospital.

Officers initiated crisis intervention for an individual who was on the side of the road exhibiting erratic behavior. That subject was brought to the hospital.

A call was received regarding a man being loudly yelled at by a woman at a local coffee shop. Officers arrived to find three women on scene, none of which wanted to make a statement. The male party reported that he had been struck, but when asked by whom, he declined to identify his alleged attacker. All parties were advised of their rights. The three women were provided a ride home, presumably ending the coffee shop’s least relaxing coffee break of the day.

SEPTEMBER 30

An employee of a local business reported receiving an inappropriate phone call from an older man. She was concerned the caller may show up. Officers advise the woman to notify the business owner and call Sandwich PD if anyone suspicious shows up at the business.

A call was received for a suspicious incident, a male and female arguing for 15 minutes. Officers responded. They reported no fight, just a pair of self-admitted loud talkers, waiting for friends to arrive by bus.

Officers were dispatched to Quaker Meetinghouse Road for a report of another couple arguing while walking down the street. Upon arrival, officers located the two individuals. The duo reported that they were upset because their bus had dropped them off at the supermarket rather than at the apartment complex where they were supposed to meet their friends. The same friends who were involved in the previous call, “not arguing”. The individuals were directed to the apartment complex for their rendezvous.

And another call for that duo. This time, officers were unable to locate.

OCTOBER 1

Officers initiated crisis intervention for a juvenile. That child was transported to the hospital.

A local man called to report he lost his wallet in an Uber. An Apple Air Tag was indicating the location. Officers helped him retrieve it.

Crisis intervention was initiated for a juvenile. That youth was brought to the hospital by Sandwich EMS.

SEPTEMBER 21

Many calls for alarms going off for no any reason. Maybe a practice run for the machine uprising?

SEPTEMBER 22

A call was received from an employee at a local medical building regarding a man who had become a regular in their parking lot every morning.

Officers made contact with the man, who explained that he was simply trying to “reach out and touch someone” but needed a spot with good cell service to do it. After speaking with officers, the man agreed to relocate his telecommunications headquarters to a local supermarket. Ma Bell would be proud.

A woman walking at Talbot’s Point reported a disturbing encounter with a runner wearing nothing but his shoes and a backpack. Officers were unable to locate the streaker. K-9 Oakley was also deployed with negative results.

CRO Bondarek initiated a wellness check on an elderly resident at the request of the family member. That subject was brought to the hospital.

SEPTEMBER 23

Who let the chickens out? Officers are investigating what had become a nightly occurrence at one family’s coop. The chickens refused to make a statement.

A caller reported observing a suspicious woman walking around their property. While on the phone, that woman was heard telling another party, “All these houses have cameras.” The incident is currently under investigation

A man came into the station to seek advice on a personal situation.

SEPTEMBER 24

Officers are investigating a case of alleged elder abuse.

Officers are investigating an incident involving a horse and two dirt bikes on a public trail. The reporting party stated that the dirt bikes startled her horse, causing her to fall and sustain serious injuries. The individual leading the horseback ride stated that the dirt bikes approached closely enough to make contact with the horses.

SEPTEMBER 26

Fortunately, the Nor’easter alerts brought little more than trees and limbs in roadways. It still kept us busy.

A bank manager reported a suspicious vehicle sitting in the parking lot. Officers followed up, only to learn that the “suspicious” vehicle actually belonged to an employee. Which raises the obvious question: if your own employee showing up to work a suspicious activity, there may be a need for a conversation about attendance.

🚶‍♀️🚗 October is Pedestrian Safety Month!

As part of the Town of Sandwich’s Slow Down – In Our Town campaign, we’re highlighting pedestrian safety throughout the month and reminding everyone that whether you’re walking, biking, or driving, we all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.

🚶 Pedestrians: Use crosswalks, stay alert, put phones away when crossing, and wear bright or reflective clothing when walking at night.

🚗 Drivers: Slow down, stay focused, and watch for pedestrians — especially in crosswalks and near schools. Remember, Massachusetts law requires drivers to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. Never drive distracted or impaired.

We’re working with the Sandwich Bikeways & Pedestrian Committee throughout the month to share pedestrian safety information, engagement opportunities, and information about efforts to make walking and biking safer, more connected, and more accessible.

We already have several opportunities planned to kick off the campaign. Here’s how you can learn more and get involved:

🎉 Visit us at SandwichFest!
Stop by the Town’s booth Saturday, October 3, from 10 AM–3 PM, near the Hoxie House. We’ll have information about the recently completed Service Road Shared-Use Path, the proposed extension of this path to the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway, and the Town’s broader work with the SBPC to enhance biking and walking resources.

🎒 Walk, Ride or Roll to School
The The Sandwich Recreation Department is partnering with Forestdale Elementary and Oak Ridge School, Sandwich Police Department, and Sandwich Fire Department to offer Walk, Ride or Roll to School events through the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School program.

📅 Oak Ridge: Thursday, October 8, 7:15 AM arrival, 7:30 AM departure ERT Oak Ridge
📍 Corpus Christi parking lot, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road

📅 Forestdale: Friday, October 9, 7:45 AM arrival, 8:00 AM departure ERT Forestdale
📍 Oak Crest Cove, 34 Quaker Meetinghouse Road
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Rain dates are October 13 and 14, respectively. All participants will receive a prize for joining the event.

And this is just the beginning! Look for more pedestrian safety tips, engagement opportunities, and outreach from the Town and SBPC throughout October.

Let’s work together to Slow Down – In Our Town and look out for one another. 💙

SEPTEMBER 13

A caller reported loud music but was unsure of the origin. Officers located the source of the tunes and advised the homeowner of the complaint. They agreed to turn down the tunes.

Crisis intervention was initiated for an individual at the request of family. That subject was transported to the hospital.

SEPTEMBER 14

Officers took a report from a man who stated he had been threatened by his ex’s current boyfriend when she came to pick up some items from their former home. Officers spoke to all involved parties and found no criminal nexus or overt threats.

SEPTEMBER 15

While on patrol, an officer witnessed a motorist in a Ford Mustang doing donuts and leaving rubber on the pavement at the intersection of Route 6A and Tupper Road. It was 8:10 pm. The driver was located at a local coffee shop and could provide no reason why he would do something so foolish and dangerous. The driver was summonsed to court for the following:
90/24/O Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
90/11/A Operating While Not in Possession of a Driver’s License
90/11/B Operating While Not in Possession of Registration

Officers responded to a scene of an overdose. Officers successfully administered Narcan and lifesaving measures.

SEPTEMBER 16

Crisis intervention for a subject who had consumed large quantities of alcohol. That subject was brought to the hospital.

SEPTEMBER 17

Dispatch has been receiving many calls for speeding, erratic driving, and driver’s traffic signs and lights like friendly suggestions. And let’s not try to blame the tourists. They went home. Slow down, pay attention, and be nice. The roads are not your personal racetrack, and the traffic lights are not optional.

A call was received for farm animals, possibly birds, walking down the street. Officers could locate neither bird nor an animal that might be mistaken a bird in the area. Sounds like they flew the coop.

And in another part of town, not to be outdone by an avian, a snapping turtle was reported to be crossing the road. Obviously, it was slow going so the terrapin was helped along.

SEPTEMBER 18

Officers mediated a tense domestic situation. All parties agreed to separate for the day.

This is a new one in the world of stolen identities. A local woman reported someone had used her identity and enrolled in two community college classes and then never showed up. The school eventually withdrew her for truancy. She already has an advanced degree from another school, so if someone was going to steal her identity, they could have at least made a good impression. She is now working with the school to clear it up.

SEPTEMBER 19

Officers initiated a wellness check on a man at the request of a family member. All was well.

Loud music call. The revelers agreed to shut it down for the night.
