Please be aware of the possibility of heavy rainfall from 1-3 inches in the area today as remnants of tropical storm Arthur move through the area. Flash flooding is possible in low lying areas. Do not attempt to drive through standing water. As little as 6 inches of water can cause smaller vehicle to lose contact with the road.

At approximately 2:45 on June 16th, Sandy Springs Fire crews responded to a vehicle that had driven into a ravine. Upon arrival SSFD personnel found a vehicle that had been driven through the protective guardrail and was upside down on its roof. SSFD personnel were able to quickly access the vehicle and were able to safely extricate the driver, who suffered only minor injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Sandy Springs Fire sends its deepest condolences to the men and women of the Rockdale Fire Department on the loss of their firefighter today in an on duty vehicle accident.

As we enter the scorching Georgia summer, please keep asphalt temperatures in mind. As many as 7 out of 10 pediatric burns during the summer occur while outdoors and barefoot; especially when temperatures rise above 95 degrees.

With pools open and summer coming into full swing, please be mindful of how certain color swimsuits look in water. Bright, vibrant colors are recommended. While darker colors are visible, many times they may be confused with trash or leaves in the pool.

Over the last few days Sandy Springs Fire joined multiple Fire and Police agencies from around the state to compete in the annual Fire and Police games. SSFD members competed in games from pickleball, golf, bass fishing and huge shout out to our team who took second place in the 7 on 7 flag football tournament. These games represent a time for agencies to showcase athletic ability while also building closer ties across the state between public safety departments.

Two of SSFDs best representing at the “Rockin the Runway” fashion show benefiting the Drake House. The proceeds from the event help empower women and children experiencing homelessness.

Truck 54 and Tower 52 took advantage of the good weather this weekend to get some vertical vent training in on our new roof simulator.
