The Sandy Police Department recently completed our annual Taser training, including hands-on instruction and scenario-based exercises designed to prepare officers for the challenging situations they may encounter in the field.

Our officers worked through realistic scenarios that required them to assess rapidly changing circumstances, make sound decisions, communicate effectively, and determine when the use of force may be appropriate. As part of the training, our instructor wore a protective training suit and experienced Taser exposure during designated scenarios, allowing officers to practice in as realistic an environment as safely possible.

Training like this is an important part of our commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the safety of our officers and the community we serve.

***How to Find a Ticket on Your Windshield***

We know life can be hard, and parking is part of life. The City has received ongoing parking complaints, and officers have seen this firsthand in your neighborhood.

We want to remind everyone that Sandy Municipal Code Sec. 10.24.010 requires vehicles parked on a street to:

- Go with the flow: Your car must face the same direction as lawful traffic. If you are staring headlights in the eyes while parked, you did it wrong.
- Keep it parallel: Park parallel to the roadway unless signs explicitly tell you to get diagonal.
- Hug the curb: Your tires need to be within 12 inches of the curb. If a family of ducks can swim between your car and the sidewalk, pull closer.
- Respect the lines: Follow marked spaces and posted signs. They aren't suggestions.

When cars are parked like abandoned shopping carts, fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles can’t squeeze through. In an emergency, every second counts, and no one wants a fire engine to use their car as a bumper car.

Please take a moment to check how your vehicle is parked and make any necessary corrections.

We’d much rather you just park correctly than force us to write you a ticket. However, officers will be paying extra attention to neighborhoods moving forward.

Let's keep the streets safe, accessible, and ticket-free. Thanks for doing your part!

🚨CASE CLOSED!!!🚨
The energy drink epidemic appears to have failed Officer Ling. 😂

After an extensive investigation, we have determined that 18 energy drinks and sheer determination are, in fact, NOT a sustainable source of energy.
Thankfully, today is National Coffee Day. The O.G. of caffeinated bliss, life productivity, and aromatic joy. ☕️

Here’s to the beverage that has been keeping first responders, night-shift workers, and tired humans functioning since long before anyone decided an energy drink needed 17 different ingredients we can’t pronounce.

Happy National Coffee Day! ☕️😂
Stay caffeinated, friends.

Disclaimer: No officers were harmed in the making of this post. Do not try this at home.

🏀 BREAKING: Local Law Enforcement Makes the Big Time!

Sgt. Manny Herrera had one dream… make the Harlem Globetrotters! Unfortunately, the dunk contest did not go as planned. 😬

The Trail Blazers had another opening, though—event security. So, while he may not be throwing down 360s, he is making sure nobody gets away with unlawful traveling. 👮‍♂️🏀

Our officers had a great time attending the Rip City Rally. The Rally is an annual Portland Trail Blazers and Moda Health community tour that travels to cities throughout Oregon. The 2026 Rally made its Sandy stop at Cedar Park on September 18, bringing an afternoon of basketball, games, prizes and Blazers activities for the whole family. The Rally also connects with local schools and communities, with a focus on education, healthy communities and getting people active through play.

UPDATE: Sandy River Park will remain closed tomorrow, 9/25/26, on the advice of ODFW. Further, please see the statement from ODFW on the incident below:

"ODFW received a report from a pair of anglers that they encountered a bear at close proximity at 5am and shot a fi***rm at the bear due to concern for their safety. ODFW and OSP investigated the area to determine whether there might be a wounded bear present on this popular trail system and did not encounter the bear. These agencies will continue to monitor the area and are coordinating closely with the City of Sandy. The trail system is temporarily closed by the city to public access."

Original Post:

Sandy River Park is closed today, 9/24/26, due to a bear encounter this morning. Fishermen reported entering the park this morning, encountered a bear, and later reported that encounter to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff will be entering the park today to attempt to locate the bear in question and ensure the park is safe for the public.

Sandy PD has no further information about the bear encounter. Any further inquiries about the incident or response should be directed to ODFW or OSP.
